Re: C1 fuel injection gas supply line insulation

Hi Gary, You used to tell us about the insulation company a lot as I recall.
Back in my early Ford V8 days I used my Mom's wooden clothes pics. Don't know if it did anything or not.
Wish we had some commercial insulation for the fuel lines that looked decent.
It's the repro fuel lines & ethanol causing as a lot of problems. This summer though was not the greatest FI weather in the SW corner of PA because we had record breaking temps.
Dennis Clark once said one can solve this perc problem quite easily. Take you hood off and put it in the attic.

Dale Perlman (sp) had a 62 Corvette fuel car with a 400 block and a 62 fuel injection. He insulated everything 30 years ago.
Spider lines, fuel lines, Under the FI unit etc. The 62 ran perfect in the hot summer days but was not very attractive.
I forgot how to spell his name. What a shame. Help please.

The previously mentioned insulators are good suggestions. I had problem with my 2x4's and used woven electrical wire insulation. It is inexpensive and available at electrical supply stores, hardwares and big box home stores. Had it on since '64.

I took off the fuel unit on my 59 and put the full size intake gasket on. While the unit was off, I individually wrapped each line of the spider as well as the spider, also wrapped the fuel line from the pump amd the fuel filter. I purchased the foil backed insulation from Auto Zone and O'Reilleys as I recall. Not pretty, but very effective. I also took it a step further and installed a cooling fan in front of the radiator and used the the existing fresh air duct to get through the radiator support. Once inside the engine compartment, I installed a plumbing T with a damper that could be used to shut off the air flow to the cockpit during the summer months and redirect it underneath the FI plenum by way of 2" defroster ducts. One 2" duct goes to each side of the plenum. The fan is the type used for cabin ventilation in larger boats and is controlled by a switch under the dash. I only use the fan when stopped in traffic on extremely hot days down here in N C. If you research, there is an article in the archives from a fellow member across the water that used the fan blower option to success. I followed much of his course of action on my car. BTW, AV or race gas was not an option for him where he lives either.

Al, you've done an extensive amount of work. Would you mind posting some pictures? Pictures of the spider hub and nozzle lines would be greatly appreciated.

              Hi Jim,

Nice to hear from you again, hope all is well, in case you don't remember me, we became acquainted 3 years ago or so on the Corvette forum.

I have not installed the heat shroud yet, in fact I am going to pick it up today at Forte's Speed shop in Natick Mass. I was waiting for a response from this forum to get your opinions on it's usefulness and functionality,

My take, if I can slip it on, zip the Velcro, and "DRIVE" the car with reduced percolation problems..........

              It's a WIN WIN WIN......

No one here seems to have an opinion they choose to share......?

John D. thought it was "cool" when I emailed him a pic and explained...

Jim, would you care to share your experience / knowledge about Perc soultions with me ?

Re: C1 fuel injection gas supply line insulation

I bought the 1/4" by 1/2" by 3 foot fuel line insulation by Thermo Tec. Amazon sells it for $15.00. It has to be pulled over the threaded nut and down the fuel line. Took about 15 minutes with the fuel line removed. Hopefully there's some improvement, we'll see.

Jim, I've been out of town and just got back in last night. I'll try to post some Tuesday night. Got to head back out tomorrow morning for a few days. Not sure how much of the lines will be seen due to duct blockage but I'll try to do the best I can.

Re: C1 fuel injection gas supply line insulation

Pictures 1& 2 show the air duct made from original style defroster duct to look good blowing air underneath the plenum on the driver's side. Also, wrapping on the spider lines can be seen. Picture 4 shows the blower fan mounted in front of the radiator Picture 5 shows the inlet pipe at the bottom front of the radiator for cooler air Picture 6 shows the damper lever for the air deflection damper that deflects cooler air through the 2 ducts underneath the plenum. No or very limited air goes into the cockpit during the summer months with the damper deflecting it to the FI Picture 7 shows the insulated fuel line from the pump to the fuel filter. Picture 8 shows the insulation that will enclose the fuel filter and Picture 9 shows the filter insulated. This works in warm/hot weather up to 96* that I know of with 89 octane 10% ethanol fuel. Tested earlier this summer. Note that I normally use only Av Gas or (93 oct non ethanol when available) The blower is controlled by a switch mounted under the dash and is normally not used at highway speeds, mainly slow or stopped traffic. Hope this helps someone with their Fuelie issues. Note that all this ducting info was pretty much obtained by a gentlemen from across the water whose name I can't remember at this time. I'll try and locate the info if someone needs it or if additional info is needed on this setup, feel free to ask any more questions.
