C1 fuel injection gas supply line insulation

I have a 59 7300 unit very vulnerable to percolation problems. I have heard about insulating the supply line from the fuel pump to the filter to help keep temperature down. I have not been able to locate a product to use as the insulator.

Anyone have any experience or can tell me what you used ?.... Any info is appreciated

    Thanks

Jim, Have a 57 and 58 fuel car. You will solve your problem by switching to racing fuel. I use to have that problem but after switching to racing fuel never had the problem again.

      Thank you bruce,

I can't get 100LL here (around Boston airports are very strict) I have been running VP "Surge" 103 octane Leaded no ethanol or alcohol but its very pricey..... John D. and Rich F. have both suggested insulating the line, I'm inclined to try it now as I am replacing the fuel pump and lines with a rebuilt AC 4656. This is the time to try it

old fashion insulating method ---clip a bunch of the wife's wooden clothes line clips to the line. ugly but effective. jess and summit sell a foil-wrapped insulation u can cut to fit. also ugly. mike

I don't have problems as long as I have Av gas. When I go on the road and must use pump gas, hot re-starts in very hot weather (always a problem) are MUCH harder. By that I mean the rough idle goes away much quicker. So far (many years & many miles) I have resisted fuel line insulation but have done many other things less detectable that I believe help. Good luck, Don H.

I also use AV gas in my 62 F.I. and it helps quite a bit except for the hottest days of summer. The 100 octane low lead makes em happy. There's no question that race gas is better but it's very expensive and not always easy to find. Rich

                Thanks all,
for the info regarding racing fuel and 100LL. I am aware. I started this post at the suggestion of John D. He recalled reading a much earlier post possibly from Gary C. regarding insulation the fuel line to help with this problem. We can not seem to locate that post.

So..... Again.... Any info on fuel line insulation ?

                Thx

Jim: I believe there is a "separation plate" you can install under the manifold. If you don't want to go that far, try putting some type of insulation below the "spider" of copper fuel lines under the unit. Be careful not to damage these small fuel lines (each one goes to an injection area near the intake ports).

The late Dale Pearman used to insulate the fuel spider with a fine mesh fabric that he wrapped around each leg of the spider. He swore by it. He ran a big aluminum Donaven motor with a Rochester Injector. I never did learn what the material actually was and if it really worked.

Here is another idea: https://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=MI Change the setting to your state or province at the bottom of the web page.

Website and phone app called Pure-Gas. Tells you where to find ethanol free gas, where-ever you go. I buy 90 or 89 Octane "recreational fuel" or "REC Fuel" one mile from my home. I mix this with the racing fuel (110 octane) about half and half.

Getting back to the original question, here's a link to a product that is very popular in the streetrod world: https://designengineering.com/produc...eeving-tubing/ Sold by Design Engineering, Inc. and available from many sources.

I am sure this is the product that John D. was refering to , He could not recall the exact name but that it had a -gold in the name, I like this option because it is easily installed just wrap around your fuel line and easily removed for Judging...... Show the car then just slip it back on to go home... Pretty Smart

I'm ordering today, I'll let you all know what it does

                              Jim,

You can essentially wrap the spyder with aluminum foil insulation heat insulation (sorry, the product name escapes me) and that will help. Plus like Doc sez, either wood clothes pins or wrap the fuel line in the foil insulation.
