Hi Gary, The addition of metric weight designation use started in the mid 80’s, ‘84-‘85, would be my guess. Possibly earlier remembering Pres Fords attempts to draw in overseas business.

His last three photos are from ‘78s, but I’m not familiar with weights of that era, and two of the three weights shown have logos that I’ve never seen before. I wonder if those weights were not factory original. Do they look familiar to you?

          Gary
Gary, Yes, a very familiar producer. I’m not near my information but this company has been around a very long time.

whithout starting a controversy, Micro brand was NOT the sole producer and providers of wheel weights. Mathematically impossible…..From memory they are “Arrow” made by Perfection …. Please don’t hold me to that.

Keep in mind, the big three, and how many cars roll off the line. Now add a maximum of 2.5 ounces of weight per tire, on each of them. No one company could make that many. It’s the NCRS that “created” the one highest point acceptable Micro brand the holy single.

Of Jimmy’s last 3 photos, other than the Micro, which other one is a familiar producer? The one with the sans serif P or the D/small square, which it is?

Getting back....Those pictured here are as you mentioned both English/Metric marked. The A/AL does normally apply to an aluminum wheel application. I'm not recognizing the configuration but not surprisingly....I have IIRC 25 different brands in the collection. I once reached out to one of the a larger producers for some information to add to my presentation, not a peep! The rep wouldn't reveal anything about the products, production processes, materials or volume! Zipped his lip and dismissed me! All quite secretive, and I was asking about the earlier days 1920-1950's...Perhaps the contamination of lead on our planet is troublesome to them.....? If I get the chance I'll try to see if I have anything close to the pictures shown.

Sorry for no updates. Still working on this, but re-learning about casting as I go. Waiting for spring-steel clips to be stamped now.

                    Hi Michael,

I've found, not all clips are equal! Clips configurations vary, for steel vs aluminum wheel application. You should also find that the holes in these clips can be round or oval. On my path to reproduce weights, I find it easier to buy new wheel weights (non micro), melt them down recover the clip and recycle the lead or reuse the lead, into my forms. I've gone much further and have had the molds made for all the Micro sizes and the AL embossings. I believe you'll find it difficult to pour the lead....while placing the clip securely in said forms.....I just haven't gotten back to this project....pounds and pounds of lead sit on my workbenches.....Good luck

                        Mike,

A minor correction. The wheel weight company name is Perfect Equipment Corporation.

Though they don’t say ‘AL’ they do have the aluminum wheel clip profile and are clearly very, very old. May be original, I don’t know.
Not only possible, but likely to be the originals. Again, without checking I believe that brand was the highest amounts recovered, in the roughly 800 lbs. of weights I found years ago.
