You don't have to do anything for NCRS judging except present your car. Anything you do should be your choice, after careful consideration.
Especially as it applies to your particular car. Please go slowly on this car, and do not do anything to it without careful consideration of potential ramifications. It appears to be a unique and rare example and worthy of preservation as is. Don't act in haste.
    Strongly agree.

You can remove something later, but you can never un-do a removal.
I have a couple of fiber optic cameras, and the latest one connects via Bluetooth to my iPad. It’s much better than the 3-4 year old ones that connect to my laptop. You would be amazed what they can see.

And, if the tank sticker is faded, it’s all for naught anyway.

Photograph what you can, and leave it at that for now.
I’m quite sure that the right paint judges at Regional and National will know a factory black paint job when they see it.

...very nice car James. I thought I saw in the DriveLine maybe 3-4yrs ago there was a Black '73 L-82 coupe from Texas(I think)that was a Z07 car. Is this one that same car? Does it have Z07?

Since this car has SPECIAL on the trim tag, would this not this car been delivered to the dealer and then painted black?

After having inspected the car all signs point to it having been painted black prior to assembly...

as a side bar... Does anyone know if Chevrolet would ship a Corvette without weatherstripping installed or without the BLUE VIN sticker attached to the car?

This 1972 coupe with SPEC and black paint was presented at the judging retreat to illustrate documentation for a Spec car. Its a five-star Bowtie car. Terry M, familiar with the car, discussed this at the retreat.

It shows the type of documentation that confirms SPEC with black paint, painted at the factory.

The car Tom cites came with a remarkable quantity of paperwork and some great provenance. Based on our experience with this car I believe we could determine if the car was originally painted black, IF it still wears its original paint. The key is the car should be presented for Flight Judging at a Regional with the appropriate National Team Leader present. Communication with that Team Leader, in this case Brian P, prior to that event is essential to ensure that judges with sufficient skill are present. If the car has been refinished, all bets are off.

This is an interesting question since usually the blue vehicle certification label was placed on the rear driver's door when" assembly was complete". On the SPECIAL Paint tag cars would this still be the case? Also, there should be a tire Pressure label applied somewhere too! It was usually on the driver's door right below the blue certification labe. It was also found to be applied to the center storage compartment lid (around January), then later on in production it went back to the door. Is the Tire Pressure Recommendation Label present on your car?
                        What WS is missing?

So the car does have the labels. I misinterpreted the question above from James. Thought he asked because it was missing from the car.....

I remember when a friend brought a 10,000 mile black '73 to the Waco Regional about 15 years ago. It too had "SPECIAL" on the trim tag. I can't remember right now, but either the build sheet or window sticker called out that the paint was black. I do remember also that a hand written note on the build sheet stated "Silver wheels"

Yes is has the labels and all of the yellow weatherstripping glue all over top of the black paint that according to the newest edition of the judging guide should be on the car if it has original paint. Btw the alarm works the air condition works the radio both speakers work all the buzzers work. The seat belt buzzer is annoying. All the glass is dated before the car was built.
