There is one particular requirement that is NOT in the 8th edition of the NCRS Reference Judging Manual that you need to be fully aware of. You CANNOT achieve a PV, or a Top Flight with a score of a 97 or above and be ELIGIBLE for the Duntov, Hill, or the Mclellen Award in the same calander year as the National Convention. For an example, if you did a PV in Florida at the Regional in January and achieved a 97 at a Regional between January and June, you would NOT be ELIGIBLE for the Duntov, Hill, or the McLellen Award at the Nationals Convention that year.

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
Jeff,
All updates that haven't been printed in the latest edition of the reference manual are announced by the National Judging Chairman in his column which appears in every issue of The Restorer. I can't put my finger on which issue this was announced, but it's been in the past 3 years or so. I'd search for it but the next 2 weeks I have too much on my plate with finishing up magazines...

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
wait, what??
I got my 97+ at the Ohio Regional 2019 and have my first PV attempt planned for Frisco 2019 with backup options at Loveland 2020 and Minnesota 2020 with French Lick for McLellan on my 1981. You are saying that if I do not achieve PV in Frisco 2019, it is impossible for me to apply or achieve McLellan in French Lick 2020?
This severely changes my plans.

We plan on the 97 at Greenville this year, PV next spring and finish at French Lick, but if the car cannot get a PV or its 97 in the same year as the McLellan, I'm not sure the owner wants to then wait 2 more years to finish, as it's not going out to Palm Springs in 2021.
Or, is it that you can't do all three (PV, 97, Duntov/McLellan) in the same calendar year?

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
John, Patrick & Brad, the following is my history in achieving both the McLellan and Hill awards between 2008 and 2015. If the rule has changed since 2015 I am unaware. May 2008 Chapter Top Flt., June 2008, PV Bend, Or., May 2009 Regional 97, Arizona, July 2009, Top Flt 97 at San Jose Nat. and Hill award. As you can see PV, first 97 and Hill were within one year and one month. The next experience was the McLellan award. May 2013 Chapter Top Flt., June 2014 PV Loveland, Co., March 2015 first 97 Arizona Regional, July 2015, a 97 and McLellan award. As you can see it was one year and a month for this endeavor. On both occasions the requirement for a regional 97 and a national 97 were within 2 to four months of each other. I too need clarification before I start on my next project.- Top

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
Thank you all for the responses and clarification. The key word I missed was "calendar" year. Since I have my 97 already locked in at Cincinnati regional 2019, I can PV in either 2019 or 2020 and still be able to qualify for McLellan at French Lick 2020.
Thank you for the explanation!

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
Then why do we not have an updated NCRS Judging Reference Manual with this change in it? I have an 8th edition and it is not in it and it was copyright in 2010.- Top

Terry:
Please excuse my Engineering background. The previous Judging Chair Roy Sinor discussed this change in the Restorer in 2011 and made the effective date January 1, 2013. It appears it is incumbent of the member to scour all NCRS documents to understand the rules of the game.- Top

Re: How long between flight judging at chapter level and national flight judging?
Ed's timeline includes two different calendar years for each car (2008-2009 and 2014-2015).
Therefore, he was within the required condition of not doing Regional Flight Judging, PV,
and National Convention Flight Judging all in the 2014 or 2015 calendar year.
It would be helpful to see the Restorer column posted in this thread; I cannot find it in the magazines which I still have.B.D.
