    Mystery about replacement engine harness

    Hello all,

Because of questionable connection in past at firewall connectors, and a mess of splicing in the area of the A/C relay, and just
for long term peace of mind-I have undertaken an engine harnesss upgrade. I obtained proper harness for my 1965 convertible
327/350, with air conditioning that I was told was a factory original. The dash ductwork etc all appears original so I tend to believe that.

I ordered the M and H harness, and confirmed. Just an easy switch, right?

What I find today after discussing with their tech support is that all hookups seem to correspond, except that I have one branch in the middle of the harness (about where the distributor is located which is a single section that then splits into two, with various connectors.
The tech fellow assures me that these should plug into the other side of the firewall into a dash connector for the fan motor and associated controls. I was under the impression from my research on this swap, that the only wires coming out of the dash enter
the engine compartment through the grommet under the wiper motor, also containing a vacuum hose from the manifold.

Am I missing some hidden plugins? I have accounted for the coil wires, wires to ballast resistor, connector behind the fusebox, wires to starter, wires to A/C, temp sender etc.

Now a simple task has become complicated. Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Look at the C60 E1-9 sheets of your AIM, it's pretty well described for the 1966 install (I have the same M&H harness to install in a month or so ). -Bob

First is the "mystery " portion, with no obvious plug in. Second are the wires leaving the grommet, ending as part of the A/C bubbafied wiring.

another photo of the wires which exited as a group from firewall grommet. all but one of these end at A/C relay. green ends at another unit in the A/C system, nearby. Three of these wires , and their connectors, appear to be replaced by the new replacement harness.

Dr. Rebuild wiring diagram would help you a lot. There is a branch that is not used on the A/C cars where the heater fan motor is located

I was unable to locate one of those for 1965 from Doc Rebuild

                    Hi Robert
I looked at my 1965 air cond. harness and saw the following:
                    1 wire to ballast resistor
2 wire connector to windshield washer pump
3 wire connector to windshield washer motor
1 wire connector to windshield washer ground
2 wire connector to back-up lights (connector terminals are 90 degrees apart)
                    Regards

I'm not certain, but looking at your pics it looks like you may have an aftermarket STV update kit installed. I have the same kit on my 1966. The wiring change isn't complicated, but it's not part of the original harness... https://www.paragoncorvette.com/corv...ons/13870K.pdf

                          John,

Top plug in pic - dash blower switch
Pigtail attaches to main wiring harness (see your existing wires)
Three wire plug also attaches to dash blower switch

The two plugs at the bottom of the pic attach to the switch located on top of the inner heater box (below glove box LH side)

So are all connections for these plugs located in engine compartment? or located on new harness, and in engine compartment?

These plug-ins are located under the dash (inside), they go through the 4-hole grommet in the firewall. The link I posted is for the 1965 oOSOEZ Doc Rebuild wiring diagram. It also shows the plug ends which makes it much easier to figure things out.
