Re: 1965 Exhaust Recommendation
How many times a year does CC have free shipping days? That sounds like a great deal on something like a welded exhaust system.

Re: 1965 Exhaust Recommendation
I would like to hear the discussion, maybe at the Judging Retreat, and see what options exist for judging exhaust, mufflers, tali pipe tips, brake lines, fuel lines, staples, etc. They are constantly used in my experience.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Re: 1965 Exhaust Recommendation
I purchased a replacement exhaust set from ALLEN EXHAUST for my 63.
I know they are slightly different in design from the 65 but I am posting this as informational.
I couldn't even get both the hanger bolts to start in the muffler on one side.
The nut, on the back side, wasn't welded onto the bracket in the center of the punched hole.
They wanted me to slot my brackets. Wasn't happening. Pictured below is the side that fit.
They did make it right, gave me a full refund including shipping.
I was too particular and they too petulance.
I cleaned up the rusty GM system and put it back on. I purchased it NEW in the 70's from the local GM dealer.
Works great sounds good, some surface rust but that's what it looked like after 400 miles anyway.
The GM muffler has the dual hanger. Part numbers are embossed into the pipes.
Below is a picture of the GM muffler next to the replacement.
In the end I was happy I reused the OEM system.

Re: 1965 Exhaust Recommendation
I really don't know much about the Gardner Corvette system. But I had a TERRIBLE experience with my Camaro Exhaust from Gardner.
Here was my old forum thread... pretty interesting read- and really shows what that company thinks about customer service.

Re: 1965 Exhaust Recommendation
I would too. This issue needs to be addressed by the National Judging Chairman. From my understanding you as a judge are NOT supposed to touch an owners car or remove any parts from the car. If a part is to be removed the owner is to do it. Therefore when you are using a magnet as a judge you are touching the owners car. Another opportunity for something to go wrong! I rest my case.- Top

Re: 1965 Exhaust Recommendation
I don't think the exhaust is truck freight.
I have had welded pipe/muffler systems shipped for free, so I do not think they are exempt.Vice-Chairman (West), Michigan Chapter NCRS

Re: 1965 Exhaust Recommendation
Mark, I have the N-11 on my 66 and they not loud at all inside the car. I went with a set of nos pipes from the 70' steel because I wanted to get as close as original as i could. Still took a small hit at a meet as there are different markings on the nos as on the built with pipes. As for the magnet issue i have been hit for the coil , from some well known judges. I hade no problem with it, if it is not correct it's not. Told me something i did not know. Greg- Top
