    Re: 1965 Exhaust Recommendation

I just ordered from CC using the free shipping code and the $100 flat rate charge for the welded exhaust system was removed. Thanks for the tip Patrick.

      No problem.

They come packed in a large box encased in foam.
I usually use that same box and foam to support them while painting them with blackout. It works well.

Good advise here. Why not put something that is going to last and stay for lifetimes. Any system has flaws from original design so it should receive deductions. I choose to eat the points. Yes stainless is more ..... so what none offered are correct anyway.

FYI, the aluminized system on my 72 is 20 years old and still looks fine. I suspect it may have another 20 years in it unless I find some ever-elusive NOS pipes to install by then.

I installed a 2-2 1/2 welded, aluminized N11 system from CC on my '67 last summer. System fit perfectly and is not loud. I see CC is currently offering free shipping for net orders over $149 2/13-2/19, excluding freight shipped items. Mine arrived in the world's largest box via UPS durring one of their "free shipping" on exhaust promos. Great trouble free system, very easy to install and looks good.

It sound like you are pleased with your system. I have 38,000 miles since installation thru road tours across country and countless down pours. Clean up is once a year for the whole chassis on the lift. Some cleaning solvent on a rag cleans the stainless up just fine. Understand the miles on the car are not without degradation of everything. Maybe someday somebody else will rerestore the 65. But I can assure ya the stainless pipes and mufflers with be just fine to reuse. And the sound has been consistent since new.

I installed the 2 1/2 welded aluminized with oval mufflers and would have liked the long pipe with the mufflers welded on to be 1" longer. I made it work but it would have been an easier installation. I only got the pipe about 1/8" past the slits where the clamps go on. Anyone ever had this type of issue ?

The other issue is the mufflers are below the frame 3/4" on the driver's side and 3/8" on the passenger side. The AIM calls for 1". Does anyone think this will be an issue ? I can try to space the hanger with washers and longer bolts if needed.

Lastly, the leaf spring barely touches the exhaust system but I am thinking once the body is installed then I will have enough clearance.

For my 1967 I ordered a set the aluminized welded and got it with free shipping. Their email ad said the free shipping was for internet others only but when I called them to verify that they were in stock they took my order then and it arrived less than 36 hours later. I installed them a few days after that.

They are much much quieter than my chambered under car system but they sound louder (in a good, throatier way) than my very quiet standard aluminized welded system which is also from CC. I think the cambered system was from Allen’s

now have to decide what to do with two spare muffler systems...
                    Oh the dilemma,
The light at the end of the tunnel has been turned off.

                      Mark,

You will need to adjust the exhaust system fit once the car is completely assembled. Did the pipe that went on only 1/8" past the slits get stuck and would not slide any further onto the head pipe? Sometime you have to do some work to make them slide on all the way and adjust them for fitment after you know they will bottom out in the head pipes.

Is there a good way to get clearance between the exhaust pipe and the hole through the transmission cross member ? The pipes are touching a bit. The transmission bracket pulls the pipe up to the top of the hole when I tighten the U clamp.

A reminder to leave your mufflers loose from the frame when you drop your body - the lower rear quarters will hit the mufflers - The plant had a tool to pull them towards the center as they dropped the body -
