    More rooms available for national

    ATTENTION!!!!

There are rooms available for this year's National at Holiday Inn Express, Woodruff Rd., www.staysmartgreenville.com; and, Microtel on Woodruff Rd., www.microtelinn.com/hotel28359. BOTH of these hotels are within a half mile of the Embassy Suites and just around the corner from Crowne Plaza.

I want to assure you that I am here to assist you in any way possible in getting you the rooms you need. It is unfortunate that not everyone was able to get into the host hotel and I completely understand and appreciate your frustration. I've been there!! I am working directly with NCRS in ironing out the wrinkles in the reservation process to avoid future frustrations. You have my personal commitment to get you as close to the host hotel as possible. If you need my assistance, you may call me at 864-923-4445.

Janet, magic must be in your genes. I just received, this AM, an e-mail from Embassy Suites. They have uncovered a room for me from 7-12/7-18,
the NCRS gods are on my side. If you pulled a string or two, thank you. I know your job there is tough and sometime thankless. From me to you,
        THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE.

I booked the Crown Plaza Monday morning after being told by the Embassy Suites they only had rooms at $230 a night.

Re: More rooms available for national

            Good evening!

I wanted to take a moment to first and foremost, apologize profusely that it was not communicated clearly that a one night's room and tax would be charged if you are staying at the Embassy Suites or Crowne Plaza hotel. This is an oversight on my part as the information was completely left off the registration form. The reason for the charge is this 1.) we have exceeded the number of group rooms normally allowed at either hotel, limiting the remaining rooms available for transient guests; 2.) to insure when a reservation is made, it is meant to be kept and 3.) to insure we are meeting our financial obligation to the hotel per our contract.

I have received MANY complaints that NCRS did not contract ENOUGH rooms. I hope I can settle this dispute. So that everyone knows, I have worked at the Embassy Suites hotel as well as the Crowne Plaza in my previous life. I can say for certain that a hotel CANNOT AND WILL NOT give ALL their rooms to a group. Therefore, we are limited to what is available. If a hotel is contracted with an airline they ABSOLUTELY CANNOT give their rooms away for any reason. Hotels have multiple airline contracts as this provides room revenue to the hotel 365 days per year. Therefore, to insure they are going to fill, groups requiring 100+ rooms are typically charged one night's room and tax. It's just the way the business operates. This is not the first National event where one night's room and tax was required.

Now, is the reservation system NCRS currently have in place a well oiled operating system? Absolutely not!! BUT, we are aware of the kinks and are working on a resolution before next year's National. The offenders of holding multiple rooms for "friends and family" is currently being addressed as well! I know people hold rooms with good intentions of using them but, what is actually happening is that you are displacing your fellow NCRS members to overflow hotels and knocking them out of the running for a room at the host hotel. Individuals that have done that this year have been contacted and "encouraged" to contact the hotel immediately with names and credit cards for each room being held. If this doesn't happen they will lose the rooms being held. Very simple. It may not help anyone at an overflow hotel this year but, it can and I hope, will discourage this type of booking from happening in the future. Rooms that are held and dropped at the last minute because someone decided not to attend the convention puts NCRS at risk of meeting its financial obligation to the hotel.

I have also mentioned going back to the "registration number" system from years ago. I know several have mentioned this as well. Going to a National is a big deal. It's a time to catch up with people you may only see once a year. It's a time to enjoy your passion for Corvettes and to enjoy and take in the sights of an area you may have never been too.

If you have any questions, concerns or want to vent, believe me, you won't be the first, call me at 864-923-4445. I have handled rooms at the chapter, regional and national levels. People that know me, know that I will absolutely go out of my way to help you get a room at the hotel you want! In closing, there are still rooms available at the HI Express and Microtel hotels located one half mile from the Embassy Suites and just around the corner from the Crowne Plaza.

I look forward to seeing everyone in July and personally welcoming you to Greenville, SC!!

This is unfortunate. My wife and I were planning on attending our first National Convention but but with no rooms we have been discouraged from doing so. In my corporate life, I have attended many conferences hosted at hotel convention centers and have never seen such limited room availability for the conference attendees.

Floyd, as Co-Chairman of the Rhode Island National a few years ago I can attesst to the fact that hotel rooms for NCRS events is a difficult task. We tried to get the entire hotel but contracts between the airlines for pilots and crews consumed many of the rooms. What we did finally get the hotel to do when the rooms were gone, was to give the name of the next hotel inline, the rate and the phone number. That made it easier on the attendee. Additionally, we never know how many attendees or cars we will have. In the corporate world I could pretty much know the number of attendees a year in advance. Employees go where they are told since they can expense everything. NCRS attendees foot the entire bill, so it's paying for airfare, rooms, meals that lead to last minute decisions to attend or not.

All I can say is attend the event and I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. If you are a golfer, plan on playing 18.

                    Cheers

As a casual observer of this thread, (I live in Greenville) there are many hotel rooms in the area within a 5 mile radius of the Convention center. You might want to google hotels in Greenville and find a room.

                      Steve

As a note: The host hotels are about 2 miles from the actual convention center, so some sort of transportation will be required no matter where you stay......

There are still rooms available at the Crowne Plaza. Rate is $139. This is one of the two host hotels and it is on the shuttle bus route between the two host hotels and the convention center and between the two host hotels in the evening. FYI, There is a Ruth Chris steakhouse at this hotel.
