    Holley carburetor air horn/inlet diameter

This isn't a corvette question, but I know the experts on this forum will know the answer.

I put a corvette L79/350HP 490 intake and List 3367 carburetor off my 66 corvette onto my 65 El Camino with a 80s vintage 350 engine. I want to dress the 350 as a 65 Chevelle/El Camino L79 so I order a reproduction Chevelle L79 air cleaner assembly, only to find it didn't fit the air horn.

The corvette List 3367 (model 4160) carb has a air inlet diameter where the air cleaner sites of 5". I just also measure the List 3810 (model 4150) and air cleaner base on my 67 corvette and they are 5".

The base of the reproduction Chevelle L79 air cleaner is 5 1/8". By the way, the 65 Chevelle/El Camino L79 had a List 3043 Holley which is very similar to the 65 Corvette L79 List 3818-1. I also have a List 3818-1 and it measures 5".

So, my question, is the 5 1/8" diameter something started with later Holley's?

    Thanks,
    Don Harris

    Don,
I would not call myself a expert but I have played with old Chevys for over 50 years. The repro air cleaner is the problem in my opinion.
    Kind regards.

      Thanks Peter,

I agree, but when I look at looking at some aftermarket air cleaners most seem to have the 5 1/8" opening. This leads me to believe that at some point the size change in the Holley carbs from 5 to 5 1/8"

        Don:

This may well be the answer. The Holly website shows both 5 inch and 5-1/8 inch carb neck gaskets as available. You might want to call their tech line and inquire if and when change this took place.
