    Another thing to consider is that just because the motor is over the counter replacement it does not mean that it was initially installed in that particular car. These cars have been around a long time and so have these parts. Many times a car needed a motor and the owner did not care where the motor came from. From the Chevy parts department or a warranty item or the guy down the street with a big block motor. It fit the need at the time. Then times changed and it would fit another need,etc.
