Okay....is there a measurement for the distance from each side of the tunnel for the transmission alignment or do I pretty much center the transmission on the tunnel?

Jerry as much movement as you will get, it should not matter likely it will only move slightly if any, see what happens.

I didn't think there was much movement....or at least the amount of movement I need. I will take a look tomorrow.

First I have to apologize as the picture I posted of my shifter is the one before I changed out the reverse shifter arm and rod for the correct ones for a 63.
That said it seems your shifter's movement to the left is excessive it can only be because the engagement of the reverse rod is some how too far to the left or the pin in the center rod is worn on one side. I would pull it down and send pictures of the sub assemblies.
Beautiful rebuild job as it is great looking. You will get it figured out!

              Re: 1963 Shifter Issue

Okay. Part of the problem solved.....I had my wife shift the car in reverse while I was under the car. (No it wasn't running!!) The reverse shifter rod was hitting the exhaust pipe! I placed a couple of spacers under the transmission and it elevated it just enough to provide clearance from the pipe. I still have to "help it" going left, but it goes in much better! It was only a matter of time...let's get the rest of it solved later as the car shifts fine.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts and advice!!

                Jerry,
I am posting a picture of my 63 so you can see there is plenty of clearance at the exhaust at least an inch. I have a Muncie not a T10 transmission but I think the spacing is similar. The transmission is not centered in the tunnel on Corvettes I think the transmission is about an inch towards the passengers side.

                  Bob,

The info I got about the length of the Muncie reverse rod is about an inch shorter than the T10 reverse rod. The shifter works pretty well now so I may leave it until winter.
