70 Convertible Top Weatherstrip Sealant 84b

The AIM calls out a sealant for top frame weatherstrips they label 84b. What exactly is this sealant? I do not see a great deal of sealant on the top frame where weatherstrips attach.

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Bill,
In the 1970 AIM, section 0 page D9, it indicates that 84b is sealing compound part number 3910409. It also spells out other locations where this was used. Keep up the good work!

      Thank you Mike.

Pretty sure it is the gray rope caulk.

I have used contact cement made by Weldwood. They have a off yellow that is very close to what you see on the cars. Properly applied I guarantee that your weatherstrip will not come loose

          Bill,

I am of the opinion that the same sealant was used in those odd shaped chrome pieces where the screw for the t-top adjustment plate is. If you look at original cars the black sealant actually oozes out. On the majority of all restored cars it is cut even with the configuration of the chrome
          tab.

            Thank you Ron,

That is the way I was leaning. I finally did find a very tiny bit of the sealant on the frame.

            Kind Regards,

            Bill

Bill, Home depot sells the gray rope chalk and its cheap in the Weatherstrip area of store, I that some areas also use the black 3m strip chalk.
