    Spark plugs for a 64 300hp?

What are the correct a/c spark plugs for a 300hp/327? I got dinged at judging. I have a new dated set of LectricLimited wires to put on at the same time.

According to the sixth edition of 63-64 Judging Manual:

"All cars have AC 44 spark plugs"

I just noticed that LiC is carrying these repo plugs now, without the "R". I'm sure some of the other major suppliers carry them as well. I occasionally see NOS sets for sale on Ebay. I'm not sure how the repos will judge against the NOS sets. Perhaps some of the more experienced members can tell the difference between the two.

My car had AC-45S when I bought it.

Anyone have a picture of an original, with number of rings, etc?

          John:

You want AC 44 plugs with 4 thin green rings for judging, as this is what the car had originally. However, the 45S may be better for around town driving and general usage.

I would guess (educated guess) that the current reproductions will be fine. However, I have not personally run any of the reproduction spark plugs.

Lectic Limited dated wire sets have had issues with poor performance over the last 10-15 years. Perhaps they are better now, but many folks will not run them. I have a set from 20+ years ago that are fine, but somewhere along the line things changed. Check plug wire continuity and resistance before installing and use care during the install.

One more with the "44" showing.

So, do the judges pull a spark plug boot to see if there are 4 green rings? Seems like the boot would extend down past the rings.

They must have seen 45S. I didn't know since I have not changed plugs since buying the car.

                      It's just a visual inspection.

You would think with the ignition shielding in place it would be almost impossible to see. I had this set installed on my car and it just passed chapter judging this past month. The fellas who did the mechanical judging were sharp, and I did not get dinged for the spark plugs.

I'm not sure about being able to see all the 4 rings, but if you look closely, you could definitely see the "AC 44" markings.

If you have any AC plug the correct one can not be determined as it is not allowed to remove the boot for verification. Also be advised the plugs should show signs of orange paint as they were installed prior to paint. Knowing the AC plug is dark finish as opposed to other aftermarket plugs is well known. But the number of rings and ID is covered by the boot.

I have many boxes (of 8 plugs) of AC 44, 45, 45S, 46, 46S. All are 4 thin green rings, with DOM on boxes 1968. Can supply pics if interested.

Curiosity got the better of me and I went to have another look. All 4 rings are definitely covered by the boot. Unless you have aftermarket wires with long boots the AC designation is visible.
