    Battery Judging C2 64

I lost 7 originality points at the Greenville Regional. My repro battery lacked the visible "plateaus" or partitions between the cells which are said to be about 1/8 inch wide. This is a new Antique Auto Battery with a true tar top, dated and, based on their recommendation, with some cell to cell false strap which can be seen through the top fill. The true battery is a sealed AGM inside the case so there is no water/acid. Does anyone make a better repro?

If not I have this follow on question: I've heard of folks having a 100 Point car. I think this means 100% (mine is not close). Is this only poissible with bonus or mileage points or is it possible to get no deduction on a repro battery?

Larry, Antique battery use to make a correct battery for judging but requires you to call them and ask them for a correct battery for judging. I Have a chapter member that had his 63 done, and pass the judging at the nationals in 2016. From what I heard here that he closed his business.

Are you sure Larry? I hope you are correct. I already made a post about trying to get a battery for my 1928 Ford from them. Ordered it April 9th. They don't respond to my emails. John D

Check his Facebook page, I believe he posted his mother is sick or bad back and he was or is undergoing surgery on his stomach and his business is going to pot!

I know AAB seemed to disappear for a month or so but I've been told by a company that is a seller of AAB batteries that they were to restart production May 15th. If so you might try contacting them now and see if they are open.

Antique Auto Battery in Youngstown, Ohio may be back in business.
Last night there was a large heavy box at my door. I could barely lift it up. Return address Antique Auto Battery on it. I
was almost in shock as had given up on my order and my money.
On another post (can't find it) I said I ordered a Ford Script Battery for my 1928 Ford On April 9th. Paid by check and realized I should have used a credit card.
But I was in error. The battery is absolutely gorgeous. Its a 6 volt sealed battery. Instruction say no acid or water required.
By the time I ordered the battery and time I got it was two days short of two months. Well worth waiting for. John D.

Company was sold and is now known as Jim's Auto Battery of something along those lines. Resumed production in mid May.

Is Jim's Auto Battery the retail seller? Or the actual manufacturer?

I got mine through Wayne as well. He got me to the head of the list when production restarted. Battery came much sooner than the normal 6-8 weeks.

A tag in the box said read the charging instructions. But they forgot to put them in the box. Called Jim's today. No answer at Tech Support so I called Sales and they emailed me the instructions right away. Nice young lady to talk to.

My 64 was just judged last month with a brand new DELCO purchased at the local Delco store. It only took a 12 point originality deduct.

For a difference of 7 points to 12 points and over $200 bucks difference the current Delco is a no brainer. That’s only 1/10 of a percentage point.

                            Gene,

Probably cheaper per point than getting C2 restored shocks, or a correct air filter for a '66 L79. I bit the bullet with the shocks; would need a 2nd mortgage for the latter, if a 100% correct air filter is even findable.

Gary, what you could do is just go for the rear shocks and use the old style replacement Delco’s for the front. The fronts are impossible to read data on the bases. As a former chassis judge if the fronts were a correct configuration and the color was good I let them fly. The rears are another story...

There used to be a reproduction air filter that was good mesh and off color paper. But the rubber molded part was total incorrect. Those used to get most of the points. But as I recall they are not available any longer........correct? They were both square and diamond mesh. There was always discussions on what was correct square or diamond.
