I agree with Tom and most of the other comments in this thread. Most of the people on facebook are looking for advice or showing off their pride and joy. We need to invite and welcome them to our club. The show n shine weekend events I have attended the last couple of years are setting participation records and they are just as gray as we are. The world is changing very quickly and we will need to change with it or we may be left behind.

UPDATE: I was later able to get my email through.
I sent Lauren a few pix from our IN Chapter Meet, April 27-28.
Perhaps it would be a good idea for her to attend a meet or two, depending on her location.
It's hard to beat personal participation to help with understanding what/why/how we do things.

With regard to comment #13 above, the last supposedly credible membership # I heard was that we had "slipped" something like 2000 members. Of course, we don't hear about it when Board members resign, so why worry about members? Transparency lives, but not here.

Norwich? 2016? Sorry, but my deepest trip into New England was Boston and that was in 1985 at the Sheraton 2 1/2. And it wasn't from John Tidwell, but another long-timer from the South, and he was right. Buried deep in Form 990(? - 900?) was the 170K unaccounted $$ for salaries. It was in the NCRS Financial Statements where the Store Inventory ($9X,XXX) had remained the same exact amount for three years running. Not easy to do without pin-point planning......

I know I am the minority, but I am 34 and was at the Regional at Greenville last month along with the National last year at San Antonio. I hang out with all of the older guys and havnt ever felt or been made to feel like I don’t fit in. I am the Vice Chair of my chapter and am at every one of our events. I am married with 2 kids and work full time but try to come to as many regionals and the National every year. I am the third owner of an original motor 67 l71 and live and breath these cars as I have since I was about 10yrs old. II just finished restoring my 67 myself and am hopeing to bring it out to start the journey to a Duntov in Frisco this fall. I myself don’t do Facebook or Twitter or any of the social media sites out there mainly because of the privacy side of it. I know I am the minority at my age, but my point is there are some young people out there who love these cars not modified, but the way they left the factory. And by the way, my father is not and has never been a member of NCRS, but hopefully my son and daughter will be. Jeff

Thanks Mike, I look forward to meeting you as well. I should clarify that when I said I restored my 67 myself it was with lots of help and advice from quite a few of my NCRS friends.

Jeff, hope to meet you in Frisco and please recruit some friends to join you at the regional. C4s, C5s, drive them and bring them.

Loren, how about a REAL AUDIT? Oh Sorry, that was declined when the regime changed and is Taboo to discuss.........
This post will probably be moved to an obscure file someplace.

Anyone have an idea how much a Real audit costs? You go all out and look at everything and I estimate between 25 and 30K. How much of a dues increase do you want to cove an audit? The current NCRS Board has/is fixing the problem that existed.

If this conversation can remain focused on a new marketing initiative in social media, where it started, rather than devolving to a rant against the BoD and demanding audits, it can stay active. Otherwise it goes where all rants against the BoD go.

                          Re: New NCRS Marketing initiative.

Harry a REAL honest to goodness independent audit will cost about 4 times that amount. Typically, a "review or mini-audit" which is what most 501C3 organizations undergo cost about what you mention.

There are two cheaper alternatives to a full-blown independent audit. The first is called a review, which is like a mini-audit. A CPA examines your financial records, but much less thoroughly than in a full-blown audit. Unlike an audit, the CPA does not express an opinion as to whether your financial statements are in accordance with GAAP. Instead, the accountant merely states whether he or she is aware of any material modifications that should be made to the financial statements for them to be in conformity with GAAP. A review costs about half as much as an audit. Many funders will accept a review instead of an audit, but a review is not an audit and it may not be referred to as such.

The cheapest alternative to an audit is a compilation. This is where an accountant assembles your financial statements from the information you provide. The accountant does not subject your financial records to any audit or review and thus can express no opinion at all as to whether they comply with GAAP.

I love the NCRS. I wish we would go back to 3 year membership's. Maybe a free tee shirt or spec book like we used to get once and a while. Get rid of the unreliable repop batteries, unsafe original tires for judging. I have said before my sons love vettes but as soon as I am gone the original motors are going on the shelf and something wild will be going in. I was crucified by the site for asking if anyone had put headers in their 2015. My sons and their friends have CTS V's late model Vettes ,Challengers and all are boosted to the max. I fear our cars will be going the way of the model T.

                              Re: New NCRS Marketing initiative.

For whatever it's worth, my daughter has a degree in public relations/marketing and is a PR professional for a living. From her perspective, she thinks this is a good idea. She did indicate that the efforts need to be targeted at retention and bringing in new members into the organization in order to experience growth and sustainability.

She thinks that the NCRS should provide an atmosphere that is balanced between the relevant generations. According to her thoughts, it all starts with the little things accumulating into the big picture. I know this is not the norm with NCRS events, but as an example, providing a more festive environment on the show floor could help spark some emotional excitement. This is not intended has a negative, but I have been to some regional events that felt like I was in a funeral. She also mentioned that through a course of time, sometimes an organization could use a re-branding campaign to go along with their marketing action plan.

Also, when new members join, it would not hurt to highlight them in social media and in the restorer. In the general sense, we give them their time of fame. But more importantly, people have to feel welcomed at the events. At the end of the day, it's all about how we made them feel is what they really remember. There are many other initiatives that I'm sure this young lady will bring to the table. I completely support the NCRS. It's a great organization. Does it face challenges from time to time, sure, but what organization or company doesn't (it's normal).

I understand that people don't like change, but sometimes it's required to improve processes and circumstances. Maybe if we just look at it as improvement instead of change, it will be better embraced. At the end of the day, the marketing initiatives have to tie into our actions as a group.

                              Just my two cents.
