    Re: Spare Tire Wheel Weights

They are around, check e bay. I have a small reserve of them. I should have been more specific about the loss of points. All wheels had weights except the spare, and a reduction was taken on the spare. I decided to not put a weight on as the fewer things the judges have to look at, the better. I was wrong in this case.

One can buy a decent "bubble balancer" from Harbor Freight for about 80 bucks. I bought one of these and it works great.

Don, This is my area of expertise! I've studied along with Gary B. information compiled volumes on the subject. In my possession, I have over twenty five different vintage manufacturers brands.

Feel free to shoot me an email. Surely, we can put together a set for your judging needs. I've advertised my weights for sale, several times here and the Driveline, just not lately......

A quick edit, after a look at what's being offered on outside auction sites, it's clear that upwards of 90% are NOT correct for judging! Be aware, these sellers have little idea, of what was originally installed!

Does all of the same criteria apply for the 67 alum bolt on wheels with the exception of "AL" wording instead of "micro"? I will have a restored spare wheel on NOS non-dot Firestone. Do I need a wheel weight of any size? Does anyone have an extra if so? I got rid of all my extras 10 years ago.

Dan, My 1966, has the original unused spare. There are 2ea. 1.5 oz weights mounted together on the inside of the wheel. The brand of the weight is OEM.

The tire is a 2ply BF Goodrich Silvertown 7.75x15. The white is covered with a blue coating.

I have about eight or nine different manufactures of wheel weights from the mid-60's and I never saw OEM before.

What makes you think that the manufacturer linked identifies its wheel weights with "OEM"? What I get out of their company information is that they are a supplier to the OEM automotive industry and have been so since 1939. Certainly, none of their current wheel weights as pictured are identified with the inscription "OEM".

                          Michael,

I have seen photos of several original '66 spare tires that have wheel weights with the OEM logo and I have no reason to doubt their authenticity.

                            Joe,

I concur with you. In my research I have found no indication that the OEM logo weight was made by Perfect Equipment Co. When Perfect refers to OEM they are using the term in a generic sense.

                            Gary

                            P. It does make one question the strategy of using "OEM" as a logo if one wants to identity a unique company.

Quick answer is, Yes. I do have a few "AL" marked weights left for sale. They're pricey!

Here's a picture or two of the OEM weights, I have in my vast collection. In the 700 to 800 lbs. of weights I recovered, only 6 "OEM" weights were included. This leaves me to believe that there were a very small quantity of these manufacturers weights used. And/or they were much older, perhaps in the late fifties early sixties. Another interesting weight marked "UUU", very few, again I feel were used in the fifties.
