Donald, Could it be DOT 3 Brake fluid? Check the interior boot area around your Master Cylinder. Maybe take a sample and apply it a scrap painted item to see if it removes the paint. If it does, it's DOT 3.

      Donald,

Have you checked carpet and backing for “oil” up under dash? Oil seep from gauge?

I just noticed it when I removed the floor mat.
The oil is closer to where you sit then near the pedals.
        also some under the ashtray.

I just checked on a painted surface. no luck. it looks kinds greenish, but I am wondering if it is from the carpet which is royal blue.
I also opened the brake reservoir and it is almost full. with the amount of damp carpet, if it was brake fluid, it would be low.

I am taking it into a mechanic first of the week. could the oil gauge be leaking.

                Donald,

From your description, oil is pooling at lowest point on floor. Any evidence on (under) carpet oil “wicked” from somewhere else - in particular from a source that also caused oil on ash tray?

                  Donald------

If it's actually "greenish" it could be engine coolant from a failed heater core. The location you describe would be unusual for that but if there's quite a bit of it, I'd say that's the most likely.

Brake fluid (other than siliconeJ and antifreeze will mix with water. If the oily substance doesn'tmix with water, it is oil based.
                    Hope this helps.

This makes sense, because before I took delivery from Vanguard, they had to replace the heater core.
how can i determine if it is the heater core.
Come to think of it, sometimes when the care is started, I hear a gargle sound.
it is also on the passenger side but not as much

Donald, Check for traces of antifreeze in the heater ducts which point to the floor on both sides.

                          Good morning Donald,
Does the interior have a “sweet” smell? Does windshield fog up?
if so, most likely antifreeze - heater core
