Thank goodness the '65/'66 big block hoods didn't receive special paint treatment !

its not just the stinger deduction that needs corrected. its the paint itself that gives me heartburn. i realize a "over-restoration"deduction is warranted and in years past, it was usually 10% for lacquer that was buffed excessively below the belt line. nowadays, 70% deduct for similar over-restorations isn't uncommon. mike mccagh

Each of the assorted Team Leaders and National Judging Chair need to address concerns such as this in their meetings. In fact did they NOT just meet last week?????

            Mike,

Who was it that said, NCRS cars are restored the way we wished they were, not like they actually were? Or something to that effect!

I guess it's a good thing that 44 years ago, when we were trading opinions via phone, mail and face-to-face on how these cars were built that we
didn't KNOW that only one opinion was allowed and that details should be reserved for "advanced judging schools". Can you imagine how wrong we were back when we recognized "Bowtie" and "survivor" cars? Too Late Now. Back to my '54 boattail speedster restomod with the Cummings diesel
and the vinyl cover paint substitute.

Did NOT know BOWTIE and SURVIVOR cars were NOT valued for educational purposes? When/where did that distinction come about? And, what is this "advanced judging schools" comment come from wrt details being reserved with only that venue? Guess you can color me CONFUSED!?

Hood Stinger has been described in AIM for quite some time as Mr. Stamos eloquently mentioned several times in the "banned" thread. So am NOT sure why everyone has their panties all wadded up. Paint in general has always been very SUBJECTIVE and the NJC along with NTL and concerned folks who took time out of their busy lives to provide input to each of the consecutive editions of TIM&JG attempted to bring some OBJECTIVITY and balance into how paint should be judged - hence the FLOW CHART. The TIM&JG has evolved over the years and has had many folks who post often on this TDB provide input - so ya'll need to look at yourselves and think about whether you provided BAD DATA!? The TIM&JG is a GUIDE and should be used as such both when evaluating / judging / restoring the American marque we call the Corvette. Guess I will go drink some Maker's Mark - RANT OFF.

Rick all I got out of that last thread was I need to go to the Judging seminars/ schools at National meets. While that’s a great idea it dosent work for everyone. So can someone please tell me what they are looking for the stinger paint and how points will be taken away with any deviations from the guide. You can’t tell me every single stinger strip was the same there had to be some variation between cars.

I am still of the school of thought if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it probably is a duck. When I was a team leader, that is the philosophy I tried to pass on to my team. It seems now that the NJC, team leaders, and teams are on a witch hunt to find as many nit picking things that they can find. I am glad I am out of the judging BS

Mike, the topic is fine and the discussion is great. Where I come apart is when members make demeaning comments to other members. I've had too many combative disagreements when I worked in another life and I would like to avoid them at all costs as I spend time on my favorite hobby.

Keith, they were not all exactly the same which is why I was hoping for an answer to post 25 in the other thread.

Wow this thread getting a little crazy , why doesn’t NCRS just put a well explain article on the Stinger hood by the advance judging people on the next Corvette Restorer or Driveline issue , this would make a lot of member happy and everyone would be on the same page ,

I am not sure it's just the stinger stripe deduct, I think the paint issue is a real problem in all fronts with everyone. There is a few people who believe they are the only ones who can make the deduct calls.
Please review this issue in depth and consider the members, " make paint easier to define at all levels",

The real answer probably means for us to be more lenient and in turn maybe we can attract more members and continue to keep the ones we have.

Let me ask everyone who is commenting in this thread - do you have the PAINT FLOW CHART in your possession? Have you talked with each of your judging chairman at the chapter level, as they SHOULD have PAINT FLOW CHARTS available at EVERY judging meet. EACH local chapter SHOULD have judging schools to address the PAINT FLOW CHART - if NOT then how do any of the local chapters judge paint!? RANT OFF
