    Knob type Battery disconnect device

Looking to buy a knob type battery shut off switch for a top post battery. I got one from Restoration Battery a few years ago - it works great but now when I try to go to their website but I get a page that states the site is no longer supported - i.e., you can't get there from here. I am reluctant to just buy one - they type with the green round knob from any website because I've heard that some are made overseas and fail or are not constructed well.

Looking for a source (vendor) for a reliable knob disconnect device - any recommendations?

    Thank you
    Ed

I've had two of them fail. This is what I now use.

          Ed,
To answer your question regarding a U.S.A. made knob type battery cutoff, I bought one of these five years ago and have, also, used them for many, many years without issue.

I, too, used the "green knob" type device (probably foreign made) that failed within the first year. I now use the blade type and it has been on my car for 18 years or so.

            Just saying.

Only issue with the knife switch (although definitely positive connection) is that you can't take the knife with you where you can take the knob type if you wish. I know there's probably lots of arguments about the necessity of doing so, and if someone really wants a car, they're going to get it.
I think it would be interesting to know how the failures occurred. I have been using mine for around six years with no problems. They all look similar to each other and other than conductive materials or oxidation, I really wonder why such a simple device would fail.

                Steve,
My failure was that you had to REALLY crank the handle down to get good contact. If it wasn't super tight, sometimes the connection failed.

My failures were, I could remove the knob and the connection was still hot.

used both and agree the blade is much more positive.also, you can tell by looking that it is disengaged. sometimes i would forget to turn off the knife type or it would get stuck "on".

I got mine at my local NAPA store. Seems to be well made.

I have used the green knob type forever. But they do need some TLC once in a while. The battery acid hurts them. So just give them a bath in baking soda and water. Then I spray a little Aero-Kroil on them, etc. They would great. Much prettier than the knife blade jobs too. But use whatever works for you. JD

Been selling the green knobs for years. They are available at NAPA and most Battery outlets! You must remember the green knob only needs to be turned counterclockwise one revolution to stop the current. It is not made to remove from the terminal and put in your pocket! Duh!

I have used this disconnect for several years on a '72. No problems. (The terminals on the battery are on the side.)

Just throwing my 2 cents in
SB - green screw down type I've used for over 25 years never had a problem - I also if the car comes with a radio , put a radio in the on position so when I unscrew the green knob I know / hear its off.

                              knife type -
I had problems with not enough current to crank over a 66 427/390 - with the green screw type so I changed to the larger knife type - no issues then all good.

Beware of cheap Chinese imports bad quality that can snap.
