Lubricate C2 RH Vent Cable A/C car

Winter projects are always fun. The vent cable for my RH vent door is a struggle to pull and push. Other than removing the cable, which I've done on a non-A/C car, is there an easy way to lubricate the cable?

I have the LH side cable hanging in the basement so the lubricant works it's way all the way through. That was a bunt to remove.

    Thanks

Harry, I had the same problems with both my vent doors, I removed them, no easy way but to remove and clean what you can of the wire with steel wool and slide the cables back and forth while spraying with lube, I used something called Fluid Film, also be sure the inner wire cable did not get bent or kinked, this will make thing tough. generally you can watch the outer cable and see it flex where there is a bend. If you need a cable let me know I am pretty sure I have one or both.

Ed, thanks. As I recall the routing of the A/C cable is different and the PN is different that a non-A/C car.

I was just thinking if it was the A/C car. that could make for more work.

Ed, I just checked. Different routing and different part number. I guess I get to pull it out to lube it.

            Isn't this fun!

harry: it'd be easier to sign up at the local gym and bulk up your right biceps/triceps. removing the cable is a job that starts and ends in hell. mike

There is no right (passenger) side vent on a '64 & '65 AC cars, that vent is used for the AC. 1963 AC cars must be different. Don H.

The vent on the passenger side on an A/C car is the return to the A/C evaporator box. With all the knobs/pulls in the vent door is open. If you pull the knob/pull out that is also the fan speed control, that closes the passenger side flapper behind the vent. When closed it pulls outside air into the evaporator box. When open it pulls interior air into the evaporator box thus reducing the humidity inside the car. A far as I know 63 to 67 were all the same.

My wife's 67 AC car does not have a cable for the LH side if I remember correctly, only the RH side.

The knob for the LH cable on a '67 with or without A/C is on the driver's side radio side panel. There is no passenger side vent on an A/C car. That "vent" is the return for the evaporator box, as Harry stated.

This is Edition one of the 67 owners manual. I agree that the RH vent is for A/C to recycle the cold air, but you can close the vent to pull in outside air. Please look at text under AIR-PULL-FAN. This is the second pull down on the left. If you pull that out it will start to close the RH vent. All the way out and the vent closes and outside air feeds the evaporator box. The 67 operates the same as a 63.

That is the cable I am trying to lubricate.

I plan to remove the cable on Saturday, I'll let you know how the removal and the lube goes.
