    Late 1972 Master Cylinder

Have a question on very late 1972 master cylinder. I have '72 VIN 26,5xx. July '72 build with power brakes. The judging guide states that very late '72's don't have the 2-character code stamped on the front semi circular machined area.

My question is: Was the machined area still present, but just without a stamp on it? OR was the machined area gone completely and replaced with the TG on the forward brake line fitting?

CSSB's catalog indicates the latter, but wanted to see forum's thoughts are.

Their 1972 power MC listing refers you to this part # for '72 VIN's 25k and above:

I own 26,44x with the original master cylinder. It is machined with no stamp. It's fairly rusty, but I don't see any stamp.

I have seen some 1972 master cylinbders with the two letter code stamped in very small leters on the machined surface where the front brake line attaches to the master cylinder. Where the date code usually is. I didn't pay attention to whether they were late model year production or not. More to learn.

At some point, perhaps 1973 or later, the "half-moon" machined area was completely eliminated with the area as-cast.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I suspected the answer would be yes to the half moon machined area and no to the stamp. My gut said that CSSB description was wrong.

I agree with Gary and Terry. On many 72s I have seen the Stamp in very small letters and some very very late 72 production I have seen no stamp at all on the horizontal front tab.
