Okay gentleman I done a little research to clarify some of the mystery as to why there is a A manual and a B manual. I had an A manual already so I purchased a B manual to compare. After reading through both manuals I did find some differences. In section 2, page 27, 2-27 I found that manual A has a picture demonstrating how to release the T-Top hold down strap. Then under the photo it gives instructions about the Anti-Theft Alarm System. In manual B 2-27 it has the same picture demonstrating how to release the T-Top hold down strap. However, under that photo in manual B it has CAUTION and gives instructions about strapping down the T-Tops in case of an accident. Then followed by NOTICE: If equipped with the optional GLASS T-Tops... Then it goes into the Anti-Theft Alarm System.
Now move on to section 5, page 8, 5-8 Manual A Starts out with a sub heading Manual Transmission Lubricant, then another sub heading Manual Transmission, followed by Transmission Shift Linkage (Manual and Automatic), followed by Clutch Cross-Shaft, then Clutch, then Clutch Fork and Ball Stud, then Clutch Linkage. Then a Main heading ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM, then followed on the next page, page 9, a diagram showing how to adjust the clutch assembly for a manual transmission. Then there is a continuation of giving details of the engine cooling system. then followed by a sub heading Cooling System Care.
Now in manual B page 8 starts out with a sub heading Manual transmission Lubricant, but the following sub heading Manual Transmission is omitted. Then the page continues the same as manual A with Transmission Shift Linkage (Manual and Automatic), Clutch Cross-Shaft. As page 8 continues it is different than manual A as it has a main heading, CLUTCH ADJUSTMENT-MANUAL TRANSMISSION. This section gives instructions on how to adjust the clutch assembly followed by the diagram. Then on page 9 the sub heading Clutch, Clutch Fork and Ball Stud and Clutch Linkage. Then the main heading ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM. It seems that in the manual B, Helms got instructions a little more organized. So I interpret the 1978 Corvette owners manuals as having a First Edition and a Second Edition. I don't know how this would effect the judging for having the right contents in the glove box according to VIN number.

I second Dave's comment on your research, Barry. The revision team will appreciate this. This confirms the fact that whether it uses a letter or month/year designation, a second manual is issued because of changing information.
