No SoCal Corvette photo album is complete without the famous Clippinger Chevrolet, their famous salesman, and the famous and highly sought after California six tail light Corvette option...........

I really like this one also.( assembly line photo) Note minimal overspray on bell housing and generous amount of black out on exhaust. Chip.

I am a fan of the late Dave MacDonald because he was a So. CAL corvette racer, including driving a Bob Sorensen Chevrolet sponsored car (where my 64 coupe came from). As you all know, Dave passed away at 27 years of age on May 30, 1964 on lap 2 of the Indy 500 in Mickey Thompson's Sears-Allstate Special Ford. Here are a couple shots of Dave with Jim Simpson, and their 61 Corvette Special, with shorty tube frame and custom made lightweight body, a precursor to the Sting Ray GS.

A good buddy here in the club sent this shot of Dave working at the office, at Cotati Raceway north of San Francisco. Here the 61 Special wears the Sorenson Chevrolet - Whittier banner.

I'm also a Dave MacDonald fan, and this is the best video I have ever seen of him, his wife, Bob Bondurant, and Jerry Grant picking up the first 3 '63 Z06s ever built. Dave and his wife drove that car home to SoCal and raced it right away, amazing stuff!

Amazing story on so many levels. No time to prep the cars, and they all DNF'd in the 3Hr GP for Sports Cars, except MT's car that was flown out to So CAL giving enough lead time to adequately prepare.

Could this really be Dave's car?

Don, the black '57 Nomad tow car pictured with the Simpson car became a "very chased" car in the '80s/'90s - turned out to be the new residence of the original ZO6 motor that had come with the ZO6...........

Before and after, 1966 number 2999. New in Medina, NY (Hartway Motors is still there). Trophy blue and orig. 300 HP 327. Dark blue Int. Owned many years. Old photo is from about 1980. New photo is from this summer (2017). This was a GM Harrison executive purchase in Oct, 1965. (He bought one every year for awhile.) When I bought this car, I actually didn't know it was the same car that I remembered (from 1967) in Trophy Blue. The P.O.P. told me soon after.

I think you will find that this wasn't a run of the mill L72.

I believe Ken Kayser discusses it in his latest book regarding the development of the Mark IV engine.

I don't have the book. Seems most things Corvette have moved beyond my cost comfort range.

Tom Dingman has been gracious in supply info from Ken's book.

There's a long story about this car. '65 Racer from it's delivery in Allentown, PA to Tom Morgan.

THIS IS: Tom Morgan's car (Nassau blue 425 HP #16538), after Sam Armstrong, after Mike Oleyar, in the hands of Phil Zosky - At Pocono, PA.
Mike O. (#51) is the guy who painted it with an MGB color in late 1969 or 1970. He then sold to Phil Z., who put his number 84 on it.
