Unfortunately SKF did screw up the interchange with the GM number. Their 17727 seal is actually the 56-62 seal, not 53-55.

So back to square one. Where can we get them at non-Corvette prices?

BTW, Zip advertises a 53-62 differential rebuild kit at a very reasonable price. But of course it does not fit 53-55 as advertised. Beware.

        Troy
While I don't work on those diff's I have been telling guys for years the kits sold for 63-79's don't have the correct case shims in them for 63-66's. Yet they are sold everyday.

I used a Citation diff seal - I learned this trick from Jack Kerklias

Forgetting GM and interchange part numbers, which were not working, I searched SKF catalog by size. Recall the 55 Corvette P&A says the sizes are 1 7/8" ID by 3 7/16" OD.

I found an SKF 18926 that is very, very close - $24.25 from Grainger. 1 7/8" by 3 1/2", only 1/16" off in the bore diameter. I wonder if it would work.

Not a chance. No way would you ever be able to shove a 3-1/2" OD seal into a 3-7/16 ID hole in the differential carrier.

              Nice try, though.
