    Painting 1969 Convertible

Ready to paint my car, finally. I have decided to go with the following PPG Products: DPLF, K36, DPLF and DDL in Riverside Gold. The body has been stripped with stripper down to the 'red oxide primer' and then to bare fiberglass with green scotch pads and water last summer. My questions are what to wipe the bare body down with before DPLF application ? Some have suggested acetone on the bare fiberglass? Some of the cleaners from PPG do not recommend their products on fiberglass? What to use to wipe down the DPLF if anything before the application of K36 ? After blocking the K36, what to wipe down before the final DPLF ? After all the work involved to get to this point, hate to mess-up now. Any comments or recommendations would be greatly appreciated?

    Thanks,
    Steve

And you had your version of Riverside Gold matched to a known original example?

Steve Have you spoken to anyone from PPG ? If not I think that is where I would start.

Thanks for responses. Paint matched to the original hard top that had never been painted. Will discuss with PPG but was hoping to receive some actual Corvette experiences since these products have been mentioned in the Forum. Steve

Steve I would call PPG if something goes wrong this what they told you to do.

DPLF will seal the fiberglass. I would not worry about a prep wash penetrating the DPLF and the K36. It is almost an impervious substrate

You are on the right track for the substrates. If I was painting another car that would be my choice of materials. The DPLF seals the fiberglass, the K36 is a heavy build primer/surfacer, and the DPLF is a wonderful sealer to use under your top coat, whether it be lacquer, single stage, two stage, waterborn or whatever

Dick, appreciate the conformation on the choice of substrate products. Thanks Steve
