    Rhoads Lifters

    What's the word on the value of these hydraulics? They are advertised to increase vacuum & torque at lower RPM's while allowing same or higher performance in high rev range. I know Crane had their own version. Any downside?

    Ralph, these style lifter where used when cam profiles with high lift and long durations where installed, many engines with a lot of vacuum run accessories had problems staying operating at idle.

      Never used them but the two friends that tried them removed them because they are noisy and didn't perform as advertised. Why not simply use the correct cam in the first place?

        Agree. Decide what kind of torque bandwidth you want, then select a cam to achieve it. Anything less than 80 percent peak torque at 2000 is going to be a soggy engine in normal road driving. The base engine and McCagh Specials cams make about 90 percent at 2000, and all SHP cams except the 30-30 make the 80 percent bogey.

        For any cam if you want more top end power and usable revs, massage the heads.
