    1968 Differential Stamping Location

Where is the stamping on a 68 differential that shows date assembled and ratio? Any photos?

I assume there is also a casting number and date on the housing? Where are they located? Any photos?

These are from one of my 65's but 68 is probably the same.

God, those pics are beautiful! Something about a clean cast finish...thanks so much.

Questions. a) Is that stamp on top or bottom? b) Why 2 casting numbers?

The stamp is on the bottom just in front of the spring. Those are two different parts, the main housing and the rear cover, hence the two casting numbers.

It will be in the same locations as the '65. Pretty much the same diff as the 65 as well both good and bad aspects.

Hi Gregory, my 68 had the code and date stamp on bottom between the spring and the strut rod bracket. Chris

Awesome...other than assuming that 2 21 68 is the date, how is the rest of the stamp read?

I remember doing a google search that took me to a site that had the codes (the stamping to the left of the date) translated. In my case "2AU" is a 3:36 heavy duty posi. I don't have the site handy right now but try a search for 68 corvette differential codes.

The differential codes, and a whole lot more, are in the 1968-69 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide (TIM&JG) available from the NCRS Store in the drop-down menue at the top of this page.
