    Re: 1955 Corvette barn find

    Chris,

I understand that. The absence of an antenna hole was just an example of things we have to document for judging. For my two '57, I have to show that there is no hole where an antenna was. This was an example for 56-57 in context of your having to document paint color for your '55.

But my question was what kind of wingnut is on your air cleaner? Is it the same one on the 56-57 that I attached pics of?

    Thanks,

    Bob

        Great find!!!

Question for you: I am trying to find out if the '55 Corvette V-8's used the same air cleaner wingnut as did the 1956-57 Corvettes. Is your wingnut like the 56-57 one attached? If not, could you post a pic?

I'd take lots of pics to document that you are finding copper paint and overspray beneath things as you remove trim, etc. It wouldn't hurt to have a 53-55 judge see it early on or maybe send pics to Mike McCagh, who may have seen this post already. I took lots of pics of the driver rear fender with paint off to show there was no hole for antennas on either of my '57 projects. But in my case, they can just look at it from inside the trunk!

        Thanks,

        Bob

Could you post pictures of the wheels? Show if riveted, dates, if they have the extra contour around the center.

date is just a few weeks before car was assembled. AE is also correct.

do you know of any 55s that have welded wheels?

My experience and knowledge with '55 and earlier is thin to nun.

I just started to learn about '55 wheels. Feel free to school me.

Our car is a Corvette Copper car also.

                                John,

AFAIK, '55, '56 and early '57 Corvette rims were all riveted. Welded wheels were produced in '57. Change over from riveted to welded wheels came about with the introduction of tubeless tires.

Search the archives for Dale Pearman's aka the "Rev" posts about C1 wheels. The Rev published lots of good info about wheels.
