    1955 Corvette barn find

This baby came in this morning and is definitely a "Corvette Copper" car! It is a good solid car with most of the right parts but going to be a big job. Should I get color verification from an independent source? And if so who? thanks for any help. Ronnie

I am getting the original wheels with next shipment not sure of condition. The wheels on the car are slotted not as shown in pics. I told them it was important to get the wheels that came with the car if possible. The paint under mat in cvt top well is excellent!thanks Ronnie

About 4" from the top of this page, in the center of the page is the word "community". Click on that and then scroll down to "member list".

On a semi-related topic, did we determine that the "V" that was stamped on the VIN Tag on 55 Corvettes was a couple of chisel / flat screwdriver marks, or an actual letter?

Ron, Looks to me like you are correct about the original color of the car. All the tale tale signs indicate copper from the factory. No one would have completely stripped the paint on this car back in the day before painting it again. If you plan to restore it, my money is on copper paint under the windshield frame as well.

It looks like your car was a copper car
You have paint in places which where there would be original color.
                        Look behind the seats
look under the carpet at the floor
look in the gas door area
look in the conv top area
                        - peel back weatherstrip and the orig color will be under the weather strip
I see you took off a side moulding - copper under there.
Take off the stainless trim behind the seats - philips screws - bet there is copper behind there
What I see - its a copper car. You have plenty of documentation so far

Yes it looks like a chisel "V"

                            Gary,

                            Great find!!!

Question for you: I am trying to find out if the '55 Corvette V-8's used the same air cleaner wingnut as did the 1956-57 Corvettes. Is your wingnut like the 56-57 one attached? If not, could you post a pic?

I'd take lots of pics to document that you are finding copper paint and overspray beneath things as you remove trim, etc. It wouldn't hurt to have a 53-55 judge see it early on or maybe send pics to Mike McCagh, who may have seen this post already. I took lots of pics of the driver rear fender with paint off to show there was no hole for antennas on either of my '57 projects. But in my case, they can just look at it from inside the trunk!

                            Bob

                            Thanks,

                            Bob

the antenna for 53-55 is bonded to the underside of the trunk lid..... its a screen and the cable runs along the passenger side in the rocker panel. Chris S
