Early 63 Convertible pinch welt caps

The early stainless caps were crimped on and didn't stay put long. So they changed the design to add a screw to keep it in place.

Since the early caps fell off and are typically missing they are missing on my 63. I have been trying to find good photos of the part so I can make them for my car. I'd appreciate it if someone could post some photos of that part. Also I'd like to know the length.

They are not shown in the TIM&JG. I keep checking on the judging field for a car I can take photos from but seems like there are more split windows being judged and the few convertibles are later with the screw on caps.

I am aware that there was a photo posted on this site some time back and there is also a photo in Noland's book. But I'm trying to find photos taken from different angles including the back side and dimensions so I can make them for my car.

Pinch Welt Cap for early 1963

I have a 10/31/62 roadster and I'm thinking that I need the pressed on pinch welt cap as indicated in Noland Adams book on Page 66. Does anyone know a source for these for purchase?

      Thanks

      Jerry

          Rich,

No these aren't the ones I need. Please take a look at page 66 in Noland Adams book. The ones I need are the pressed on ones.

          Thanks,

          Jerry

Jerry, As I was looking at the vendor sites I saw no others. Hmmm, another early "special" 63 part. Uh Oh.

I don't have my Noland C2 book handy. Any chance you(or someone) could shoot a photo and post it?

Nice photo Rich. Like I said.... Uh Oh. Those will be tough to find. I just searched the world internet and came up blank. It certainly appears they are not reproduced.

Jerry, May want to call David Sokolowski in California. He has many unique parts.

                    Richard,

Are these made of pot metal? if not, what material?

                    Thanks,
                    Jerry

                      Yes
In areas where the paint is chipped away, it shows as a very smooth shiny metal.
So, I would have to call it pot metal.

Jerry, if your car does not have any holes drilled at the top were the pinch welt cap are, then you likely have the one that no one will have, they had a problem with them falling off the early 63's.

Does anyone know the approximate date when GM went away from the press on pinch welt caps to the metal caps with the screws going through the body?

                          Thanks

                            Troy,

Here's a picture of the cap from page 66 of Noland Adams book. I wonder if there is a market for these to be made???

                              Jerry,

Does the AIM show the replacement part with the screw and is there anything in the Revision Record box with a date change?

If so there will be a circled number next to the part picture and reference# in the Revision info. I don't have my AIM handy.
