    L-82-L-48 seals

Is there any difference on the intake or exhaust size seals when changing out Can the keepers be cleaned and re used? What are the L-82 part numbers if different? (Fel Pro or equal)

    Frank------

There is no difference between intake and exhaust valve seals and there is no difference between L-48 and L-82 valve seals. All of these use an "o-ring" type seal. GM #102114034, Fel-Pro SS5112, or Sealed Power MV1233C.

The valve locks ("keepers") can be re-sued if not worn or damaged.

        Frank------

No pre-1981 Corvette small block (e.g. any L-48 or L-82) ever originally used umbrella or positive type valve stem seals. The original seals were "o-ring" type (not actual o-rings since these seals had a square cross section, not round). The original seals were GM #3835333. I don't think these seals were Viton material. The GM replacement part number as I mentioned in my previous post is GM #10214034. These may be Viton. These "o-ring" type valve stem seals MUST be used in conjunction with stock-type valve spring shields.

Other types of valve stem seals can be retrofitted to pre-1981 small blocks but they were not originally used.
