57 shifter handle??

My 57 did not come with a 4 speed from the factory--too early of a car. The car was later fitted with a Muncie trans and a shift handle that APPEARS to be an original 57. It bolts to the Muncie shifter. Did the original 57 handles bolt to the original for 57 Borg-Warner shifter? If not, maybe the handle I have is the aftermarket one as shown in this link.

I would say you should EASILY be able to tell if it is a stock shifter or a Hurst. The throw and "tightness" will tell you. Also if the handle bolts on like in the picture, it is not stock. The stock shifter is one unit, not a handle bolted to it. Don H.

OK, you answered my question in a round about way stating "The stock shifter is one unit, not a handle bolted to it." However, for your future information the handle in the picture in the link is NOT a Hurst handle but rather an aftermarket item made by another company so you can have the original "looking" shifter used with a Hurst shifter. Apparently it must also bolt to the Muncie shifter I have since you say the original 57 shifter handle used with the Borg-Warner linkage is not a bolt on item.

My Muncie shifter is worn out so I am going to replace it with a new Hurst unit and I needed to know if I needed another handle but it looks like I am good to go there.
