I need my estimator calibrated...I measured..it is only 1 1/4...and it is plated zinc but has been replated so don't know original.

Thee very early '63 S tube is all on its own. Seam is different and the gauge of the metal is much heavier. At the NCRS National In Hershey around 2003 Denny Spaulding had an early 63 with the correct very thick s-tube. How do you tell you ask? Just buy knocking on it. the seam on the earlly very closely matches the first repro that Jack Podell made.
It has been said you can judge an s-tube with your eyes closed. Just walk along the fender and feel for the wrinkles or crinkles.
The clamp could have been spot welded on in either direction. My 63 has the clamp backwards so that you see the threads of the bolt and not the head. I don't know the length of the bolt and can't uncover my car to measure it right now. John D

Was looking at some pics and saw this. With detail here you won't see it but I think it is ELH with circles. I can send file to anyone who gives me their email address. It comes from a Edward Foss collection car with 4300 miles serial 5297. My car is serial 5788 so built about a week later.

A little history of the car these photo's came from. Owned since Aug 67, original owner is a long time NCRS member so know the specifics of car, ie original FI. (as for S tube pictures may be able to get later today?)
As you can see the bolt was plated. My s-tube is held on by the called for 9417226 screw (non hi-hat)

From the 63 AIM. The 6 screws on my A/C ducts are all high hat. Not saying they are original to the car but installing a non-high hat on the assembly line would have taken forever. Thry hve double anchor headmarks as I recall.

                Alan,
Both of my "S" tubes have the ELH bolt w/ the 3 circles and they are cad plated.
I've attached two photos showing the top seam of two different tubes I have.
One "S" tube (left) is made from heavier stock and has one side overlapping the other side with several spot welds along the joint. The
second "S" tube (right) is of lighter stock and has an overlapping "flap" with a continous crimp and what appears to be heat welds along the
                joint. .

Both of mine have wrinkles but they are on the sides so they don't show in my photos.

                        Alan,
Thanks. Yours looks like one of mine with the overlapping flap and the continuous crimp. Does yours have the ITI stamp in one or two places.?

                            Alan,
Thanks. Yours looks just like mine, one ITI stamp and all. Only difference is my Clamp is installed 180 degrees from yours so the bolt head faces down and the ITI stamp is at the bottom. Looks like there are various detail differences on these and likely we will never know the real answers. Thanks to all who took the time to respond. There are many more of these out there. Hopefully we will get more info over time.
