Bellhousing should be #3858403. The VIN should be stamped on the opposite side of the P1203.

No 1965 Corvette ever originally used the GM #3899621 bellhousing. In fact, that bellhousing was not even released until the 1967 model year.

The original bellhousing would have been a 3858403 or, possibly, 3840383

A previous 365hp air car that I owned for 36 years, #014xx, had the ...383.

It's generally accepted that some very early 65's, like yours, may have had the ...383 bellhousing carried over from the 64 model year. The OP's car was built approx. 4 months after yours. Regardless, the one he has now is incorrect.

I think we all can agree I need to find a 403 bell-housing. What about the trans. Would you guys agree it's a over the counter replacment M21? What about the pound sign?

GM #3858403 bellhousings are easy to find and usually not too expensive.

The transmission is a 1965 model year trans. The "P1203" stamping appears to have been done with individual stamping dies. It's curious, though, that "P0302" appears on the booklet. Possibly, someone tried to duplicate that and added one character. It's also possible that the main case was replaced and someone stamped this sequence on it.

Keith is there a Vin# on the opposite side of the date on the transmission?

Keith - I just looked at a pic of my 1965 Trans date. It is stamped the same way. Do not count that out as being the original trans for that car. Do some further investigation.

That's good question. I will have to degrease that side and look.
