Does any one have any information on 1973 and 1974 differential codes? The judging manual lists two codes for the 3.36:1 rear differential. These two codes are AX and LR. Were these two rear axles interchangeable? Or was their use based on the date of installation? Or was their use based on the engine or transmission (driveline) configuration? Thanks for any comments to help clear up this issue.

I believe the difference was the type of installed yoke axles. One of the codes would have denoted a unit with u-bolt type axles and the other would have denoted a unit with cap-and-bolt type axles. I don't know, for sure, which was which but I expect the "AX" code denoted the cap-and-bolt type axles and the "LR" denoted the u-bolt type axles.
I would expect that the base engine with standard axle ratio received the "LR" while all other uses of the 3.36:1 ratio received the "AX".In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
