How do you determine if it is an original jack?

Start with seeing if there is an SJ4653 on the base. If so, then check previous posts for the difference between original and reproduction. 53-61 are all the same.

Another source is the 61-62 Judging Guide. It has a good description and pictures of the 61 (same as 57) jack.

Hi Darryl,
There is a very good description in the 56-57 Judging manual.
In case you do not have one I posted a picture showing one area for you to look at.
I have tried to highlight it in chalk
It shows the middle ribs that are slightly recessed.
A reproduction jack will not have this. A very easy way to pick one out.

So I assume the repo has no stamped #? What do he repos sell for?

My car came with a box of old parts which includes a jack that looks somewhat new with a tag (swap meet) on it that says $450.00 I hope the PO did not pay that for it.

Darryl the repro jack does have the # on it just as the original.
Corvette Central sells them for $239 + $90 for the handle and the wrench

Darryl, from some of the other modifications I see you making to your '57, why worry about having an original jack? The reproductions are not for actual use and an original will cost you $900+. Why not carry a current jack for emergencies and save yourself some aggravation?

I am not worried about having an original jack. This one just came with the box of parts and I was wondering if it was real, if it was I likely would have sold it to someone that needed it. It is not a repo either, just some type of good usable jack that I am happy to use with the car.
