69 sb distributor ignition shield- one piece or two piece?

    Guys,

Can anyone tell me whether the distributor ignition shield on a 69 sb typically came with a one piece or two piece cover? I believe I had the original cover when I disassembled my car and it was a two piece but I have also read and been told by some that the distributor covers on 69 sb were one piece. Thanks.

My original owner 1969 built in mid September, 1969 has a two piece shield.

      All were two piece.

If you are talking about the box only around the distributor, my October '68 car has a 1 piece box. It is spot welded and does nor separate. The cover would be the second piece. I apologize if I read the OP wrong.

It would be helpful for the latest update of the 1968-69 TIM&JG to have more input as to the change point from one-piece to two piece for small block.

1970 production started with a two piece box (plus lid), then transitioned to the one piece box (plus lid), then transitioned again to no box (just a lid).
If this occurred in 1970 production, wouldn't all of 68 & 69 have had the two piece box (plus lid)?

That would be a logical assumption (and in fact it is what we have thought), but we have learned from past experience with other details where that kind of thinking gets us.

I believe that 1968 and early 1969 used a shield that was one piece. In other words, the front and rear halves were permanently attached to each other. In fact, Jeff Salz has reported this for his 68 above.

Have to have a blown out 10-ply Michelin tire replaced in the morning. Second tire on a new truck with Michelins. Good thing I was going slow?

Interesting tire story, and interesting day. Thanks for the fun. Much more fun than replacing the starter.

                          Air pressure high enough?
                          Or just bad luck?

I discovered that LT tires take a lot more air pressure than P-rated tires in order to maintain their load rating. I now run 51psi or more vs 35 on P-rated truck tires; page 23 for my tires (though mine are not Toyo).
