    1970 Carpet Install: Seatbelt Cutout

Installing carpet on a 1970 and do not have original carpet to copy. To install the seatbelts, do you cut a slit on the carpet on each side of the seat? Thanks if anyone can describe or provide photos.

A hole is needed for each bolt. Cutting an "X" works well. Preinstall the carpet, then poke a hole with an awl to mark the spot.

William since you said you do not have your 1970's original carpet I will mention how the carpet in my original owner 1970 with it's original carpet covers the two front mounting bolts for the seat tracks. The carpet is cut about the width of the front seat track so you have to lift the carpet pieces covering the attachment bolts and fold it towards the front of the car to see the bolts. The cut carpeting covers the front seat tracks. The two rear seat track bolts can be seen when the seat is moved forward. The seat track at the rear bolt positions is on top of the carpet and the bolts are visible going through the seat tracks.

My 2nd-owner 70 is the same. I'm pretty sure that is what the new 70-72 JG says also.

That is the way my original owner 1970 is also. The 1970-72 TIM&JG has pictures of the carpet cut-outs. If you get the color version you will notice a Bright Blue carpet photo that is very familiar to me.

I thought the OP was asking about seat belt installation, not seat track installation. I only wish I could answer his original question but I haven't owned my C3 since 1996.

My seat belt fasteners just pass through holes in the carpet, just like Mark E said in post #2. No pictures of that. The seat would have to be out to get pictures of those bolts.
