1967 L71 Engine Bay & Underdash Wiring Configuration Views

Please give me your opinions regarding configuration of our wiring for this one. In the engine bay, past experience and past deducts of other cars has taught me some things.

Note the K66 TI wiring bundle behind the distributor shield. The UPC 12 and UPC K66 pages are very "non-detailed" for BB cars. We had a very low milage '67 L71 BB reference photo(s) that we also used as a guide.

As usual picture heavy so I iconified them this time. Maybe this can be a guide for future restorations if it's deemed accurate.

Criticism welcome so we can get better at this stuff.

Thanks Richard. I am completing the under hood wiring and hoses on 67 L-71 and these pics will really help.

How many J clips do you have the hood release cable in? Is there a J clip above the master ?(between the booster brackets).

Brian, You know, I brought that up last week to my friend. There is NO clip behind the booster. There should be, shouldn't there?

Right now only 2 clips are there IIRC. I think it should have three.

The J clip over the master seems to be hit or miss. The hood cable should be in 3 J fasteners, the AIM show position.

Brian, So are you saying all cars have 3? That's what I thought too. Are some on the drivers side in a different location?

I was planning to check in the AIM tomorrow after your inquiry. Thanks.

I believe it's 3. 1 center and one on each side of the hood bulge.

Jeff, Nikon Coolpix that's my wife's. Small pocketsize for travel. Some blurred on me but my fault. Not bad for $100 a few years ago. Only thing it doesn't take gook hi res close ups(macro). I have a old Olympus for the macro images I take.

Yes my friend and I just talked about it. We believe now it should be 3. We thank you for seeing that. Good Catch.

Here are some file photos of the black 67 I did last year which has a virgin body. You can see one just to the left of the booster in 7th photo. John Hinckley looked at all of these photos and more and told me the firewall area was very original It was then that I decided just to clean the firewall and not restore it. I fixed up a few hiccups but left it mostly the way you see it here. Nice original sealant and globs of goo, etc.

When there is a J fastener above the master I believe that ONLY the wire harness hangs there, The hood cable goes in 3, J fasteners and the harness and washer hoses is hung from the hood cable with 5 or 6 ? black T straps.

                      Rich,
This is the third clip (driver's side between the power booster bracket) on my '67. There are definitely supposed to be three J clips that hold the hood release cable, and as you mentioned, 6 black T straps holding the wiring harness, washer hose, etc out of the way. The wiring harness is never supposed to be held by the J clips...only the hood release cable.

Lief, I believe that clip is for the harness only. The 3 clips for the hood cable are center and to the R & L of the bulge. I mention this clip in Rich's steering column thread. Take a look at the AIM, what do you think?

I'll be going back to the car tomorrow and will see what's there or not there and get more detailed shots of those clips and the areas in question.

                          Thanks guys....

                            Brian,
After looking at the AIM and re-reading the TIM&JG and looking under the hood of my car again...I must concur. I had the hood release cable retained by 4 J clips instead of just the three...the center one, the one approximately 11" off center to the driver's side and the one approximately 15" off center to the passenger side. The fourth clip between the brake booster now only retains the wiring harness along with the J clip on the far right passenger side. Details!!! Thanks Brian.

                              Great info guys. Much appreciated.

I just talked to my friend and the car is headed to the alignment shop in a trailer tomorrow so now I won't get back there until Thursday.
