ARNCO Ink stamp on top of 67 Fuel Tank --interesting

I thought you might like to see this stamp I found on my 67's fuel tank & perhaps shed some light as I have not seen this before, nor seen mention before. I lifted the body off last week & noticed this under the layer of dust on the fuel tank when I was looking for the Vin stamp on the frame. It's tough to make out. I tried a couple different ways to take the shots. Anyways, it reads like this as you are looking at the tank from the left side ( where you see the dark grime is the fuel neck):
    ARNCO

M V R <---This has the circle around it. I'm gonna say the Reg. Logo

99% sure that's the MFG date of 8/16/66. Makes sense since its a Dec car.

The glue evidence from the tank sheet is still to the left of the fuel neck. ( YES I have it !!) & the AO Smith logo is on the bottom as it should be. So, I wanted to share this & see if you have seen this before. This is it's 1st light of day since Dec 3rd 66.

The outside of the tank is still pretty bright & nice shape. The inside has a bunch of old dried out gas that potentially I'd like to clean out & appreciate best methods you have used for doing so.

    Thanks
    Fred

I believe it's actually "ARMCO". ARMCO was a manufacturer of the terne steel stock that the tank was fabricated from.

I have seen it before on a C3, but the details escape me. Google "terne" to find out what the fuel tanks were made from.

BTW: Armco also is the company that makes the material for the highway barriers that keep us from striking roadside obstructions are made from. I believe, however that material is NOT terne, but more likely hot dipped galvanize coating.

Neat, thanks Joe. This was probably the top sheet of the pallet of steel when AOS stamped these. Cool. Interesting how everything had a date stamp on it.

Next, I'll look back through archives that mention cleaning these on the inside. I've heard something about using vinegar, also probably Eastwoood may have a product.

I judged a '67 once that had that stencil on the bottom of the tank, but it was US Steel manufacture, "USS" in a circle.
