    1967 Soft top rear window

About 25 years ago I replaced the soft top and all was well. The old top was worn beyond repair and I couldn't see out the rear window. Well this new now old top is in good shape still as is the weatherstrips, but the rear window is getting to the point that it is no longer a window.

Can the plastic rear window be saved or is a new soft top in my immediate future again.
If it can be saved, what products and how to use them?

    Don,
Great article here and I'm a firm believer in Meguiar's products.

Nothing looks worse than a convertible tops plastic rear window that you can''t see out of. Proper care and maintenance will insure you can see out.

I had to order the Meguiar's from O'reilly's on Friday. They had them on clearance for only $0.88 each. They finally came in and picked them up today.

            Gosh.....time for a nap
            I'll get to it tomorrow.

Got to be in the garage and start on the top's rear window.

It was very opaque and dirty, although it felt very clean and smooth.

After the cleaning with the Meguiars #17 Cleaner

I tried following the directions in the posted link above by Leif Anderson on how to use it but found that it gave some pretty crappy results. They suggest to do the whole window and allow to dry then buff to a shine. I found it to be extremely difficult to buff and remove. What worked for me was to apply and while still damp buff to a shine.

Tomorrow I'll apply the Meguiars #10 polishing compound and post those results.

                Looking Good!
Tried Meguiar's on my friends 66 GTO, made a big difference.

                  Hi Don,
I have never used the #17 cleaner, however I have used the #10 polish and always had excellent results. I have not ever used it on a convertible back window though.
It looks like you have had good results with the cleaner. That looks like a really nice car with a very pretty color combination.
                  Kind Regards,
                  Pete

Re: 1967 Soft top rear window - Final Update

Used the polish today, much, much easier to use than the cleaner.
I think it turned fairly well.

Don, with the results you've shown may I suggest you explain, so as to help others, how you applied the cleaner and the polish. Type of applicator, difficulty of process etc…..
                          Your rear window looks incredible!

Don, The window looks great, Did you only do the outside or the inside as well. Also would this work on a hard top rear window???

                              Don,
The article actually says to do a 5"x 5" section at a time for just the reasons you expressed. Letting that stuff dry on there is a major faux pas. Glad that everything turned out well in the end. The result of your efforts are undeniable.
