Hat's Off To NCRS For The Commence Of Concours Judging

Just got my new (Nov-Dec) issue of Driveline. Nice ad from the NCRS on the starting of "Concours"
judging. Even both of my Corvettes are Top Flight will plan on also going for the "Stock Division" in
this division. I hope they come out with some type of handbook to show exactly what they look for.
This is new and of course they will be some growing pains. BTW>The awards (ribbons) they show are
very nice looking. Please comment on this subject and thanks. Larry

Sounds interesting, maybe this will satisfy some of the critics, or maybe not........

Well maybe it will bring in more people to our meets & more money for NCRS.

Re: Hat's Off To NCRS For The Commence Of Concours Judging

I'm a bit concerned. Typically, our chapter meets already suffer from a shortage of judges. Cars we get; judges, not so many. I don't believe that bringing in even more cars (albeit with potential newer members) is the best potential solution when the judges are already overworked.

Also, I must have missed the model year qualifications. Is this for only the currently eligible Flight years, or anything up through 2017?

FWIW-Just the opposite for the Illinois Chapter. Car count keeps on going down. When I got judged in the Mid-90's we
had close to 20 cars. Now we are lucky to get 5 or 6. I would think most chapters have car numbers going down.Larry

Concours judging is totally different from NCRS Flight Judging.
It includes, cleanliness, shiney and overall appearance.
Numbers don't count, dull door jams don't win and so on and so forth......
Unless NCRS is going to set up a totally different method of Concours judging.

Originality will not be evaluated; Operations and Appearance are the two categories that will be judged and scored. Because originality is not considered in this program, Trim Tags and Service Tags will not be evaluated, and are not necessary. Similar to NCRS Flight Judging, NCRS Concours Judging will require original VIN Tags.

If originality is not evaluated how do the two categories of "Stock Division" and "Modified Division" differ?

I believe stock will be that the body appears as original...modified will be flares etc. but I'm not completely sure, Dave Brigham can probably answer your question more than I can...send him an email...also I think it's going to be a work in progress...and changes made as it evolves...

Thanks Vinnie for your comments. Yes it will be a work in progress. One thing that comes to mind will this judging be available at all
meets? eg.:Chapter/Regional/National?? If done right(I believe the NCRS will get it correct) this could be a greatest move our club has
                    made in a long time.IMHO--Larry

I think you are correct, Vinnie, that nothing is definite yet. The Driveline ad says that Florida will hold "test judging." Having once participated in NCCC, this sounds like something for those judges to get involved in.

Regarding car count at chapter meets: ours is down also but so are the folks who register to judge. We normally have to use every person who is in attendance.

Just don't call them RESTORED cars. Restore mean, return to it's ORIGINAL condition, I'm a purist......preservation, as they came from the dealership. It seems that THE NCRS wants to change our Mission Goal and get more members and $$$$$. Just my opinion !

I'm a purist too. I've always been most attracted to original cars and restorations that take our cars back to the "out of the factory" configuration. I will always prefer these pristine examples.

That said, I can also appreciate modified cars, particularly if done tastefully. And I commend and applaud this move to diversify our organization and to bring in fresh blood. I've been involved in the NCRS for a little over 10 years, and I must say that the attendees at our events aren't getting any younger. It's understandable as many of our cars are simply not affordable to younger potential patrons. I realize that modified cars are sometimes as expensive as the original ones, but I still think this move will bring in more participants. In sum, I don't think this is about money -- it's about evolution, adaptation, and survival. I, for one, am glad to see this change. But make no mistake -- it's a major fork in the road!

Michael: IMHO>You will get some very interesting pure originals also. Why?

1)There are some cars that do not want to be "Flight Judged" for fear of being put
into the counterfeit class. (Even though if Flight Judged they would go through w/o problem)
2)There are some cars that are rare(That NCRS will not judge w/o Documentation) but have the GM Documentation but do not
want to give it to NCRS or anybody else. Why?? Who knows where that Documentation will end up years from now? Who knows if
the NCRS will be even by around in the future? JMHO Larry

Adapt or die, If the NCRS does not adapt it will die. This is a move in the right direction. Just look at the auctions lately. The resto mods are drawing more dollars than original cars in a lot of cases. Folks are interested in the modified cars and if we do not adapt there won't be a lot of us old farts left. Just my humble opinion.
