How do I mount the starter solenoid heat shield?

Hi all,

Looking for a little help...

The 1108338 starter on my '69 base convertible was missing the solenoid heat shield. I recently found and cleaned-up an original one (shown below), but I can't figure out how it is supposed to be mounted to the starter solenoid. I cannot find anywhere in the AIM where this is shown clearly, so I am wondering if anyone has a photo or can try to explain it to me.

I'm a C2 guy, so here's a diagram out of the '64 AIM. Hope it helps.

Paul - when you install the shields if you don't have a battery shut-off switch definitely disconnect the batt cables. Close quarters down there.

UPC 6 sheet B2 shows the mounting. One screw attaches to the middle of the starter brace and the lower hole in the heat shield attaches to the brace mounting stud. I think the configuration of the shield in the photo differs from the configuration in the AIM. Are you sure that this shield is from a '69 small block? I will try to take a photo of mine over the weekend.

Jeffrey: I checked out the page in the '69 AIM that you mentioned... sure enough, it is there! Don't know how I missed that. If you can take a photo of your heat shield, I would greatly appreciate it. The one I bought is supposedly from a '69 small block, but it certainly could be incorrect, as I have seen a couple similar but different versions of the shield. Perhaps mine is from another year or engine configuration.
