    Re: 1963 motor mounts

According to the 1963-1967 Corvette assembly manuals mount # 3796050 is listed for 1963-1965 Corvettes and then was replaced with mount # 3886456 on 6/17/65 (as per revision box) and then replaced with GM # 3886466 on 10/14/65 (as per revision box).

Does anyone have a photo of a 3886456 mount? Was the 3886456 mount even ever issued on the assembly line?

Yesterday I spent a hour or so looking for my engine mounts in my garage, my garage attic, and my basement but without success so far. According to my notes I do have a box of 4 used engine mounts:
      1 used "3886466 AU 79" (L66-67 Corvette)
      1 used "3796050" (63-E66 Corvette)
      2 used "3777409" (61-68 Chev. Pass.)
When I find the box I will post photos of the 3796050 mount.
I wish that I had a large warehouse to store all of my parts. I do not have enough room in my 2-car garage and basement as there are boxes on top of boxes on top of boxes, etc.

Interesting, on the Dr. Rebuild web site (yeah I know -- its the Dr.) he said that the 2249 Anchor mounts were originally made by a company in Ohio who switched their operation to Korea and the quality IMPROVED.... But versions from other overseas locations are still low quality.

I strongly suspect that the 3886456 was a mistake made when the entry was made on 6/17/65 and was corrected on 10/14/65. In any event, GM #3886456 is a part number never released for SERVICE.

          Joe,

Since the two part numbers only differ by a single digit and the fact that GM # 3886456 was never serviced I tend to agree with you. It has to be a clerical error. Why didn't I notice this..............old age, I guess.

As I stated in Post #4, these non-locking mounts are still be made in USA, but quality is poor. At least that is what the box states (USA). However, I believe the LOCKING mounts may be made in Korea, as well as perhaps some of the non-locking type. Agree with DR that the Korea mount quality is better than USA, but neither one is stellar.

I tried to get clarification from Anchor in Cleveland, but no replies to my emails or calls. That is why I said be careful what you buy, and buy from a place that accepts returns if the quality or design is not up to standard. But many folks appear to be lucky (or luckier than me) and have no issues the first time.

            FWIW.

It's sometimes hard to tell the functional quality of a part by appearance, although it might imply quality. However, Rock Auto currently sells the Anchor 2249 for $4.83 and I've seen them for as low as $2.61. As I've said before, that kind of price makes me very suspicious of quality. A high price is, of course, not necessarily an indicator of high quality but a low price hardly ever means anything but low quality.

                  Frank,
if your mount is original 63 it will look like this.

I believe mine are original based on Bob's pics.... I'm surprised somebody hasn't come up with a way to bond new rubber onto the original metal mounts..

I bought my original 3796050 mount years ago at a swap meet, maybe it was even at Corvette Carlisle. The part number "3796050" is molded into the rubber just below the top end. It wasn't that difficult to figure out what I had.

Nice pic Jorjorian. Once again it proves that a lot of '63's parts were one year only. The over the counter parts were nothing buy service replacements. List all the exhaust tips I bought and called NOS for '63.. Weren't even close. Thanks, JD

For all you experts only! View these four mounts and identify them as to what year they were removed from. No prizes but just a little fun.

Interesting as I was given these for free for doing a favor for a pal just yesterday...I know nothing about them yet...
