    1963 motor mounts

Are these one-year-only....one of mine is cracked and I'm told they are next to impossible to find....??

If I can't find original style mounts what are the nearest equivalents ??

Its a 250hp original mouse motor....

    Thanks in advance...

    Re: 1963 motor mounts

There is nothing special or strange about 63 motor mounts.

They can be purchased from Volunteer Vette at 1 865 521-9100 for $25.00 each. Non-locking Original Type.

      Hmmm.....that's why I asked.
I doubted the source of yet another '63 myth'

      Thanks!

        Frankie:

        LICS also sells them.

The ones you want are ANCHOR #2249 non-locking (original type). They are even still made in USA, but the high quality just doesn't appear to be there anymore. You can buy/order just about anywhere, even Summit Racing (and maybe even Jegs). Just be careful, as I have found that some of the packages contain the non-original locking type inside. I think my last order had one of each.........yet the part number on the box was the same.

Many folks like the locking type due to safety, but they do require modifying the lower chrome/stainless ignition shields attached to the engine block.

Buy from a place you trust, or a place that will allow inspection or returns.

          Hi Frank
I got your message ......Thank You
The original GM mount fits 63-65 (all engines) and many high performance passenger cars.
A couple variations were made and they are VERY expensive NOS.
I have standing orders for NOS ones going back many years.

Joe and Larry give you the correct info. Anchor 2249 mounts should be avail at any parts house in Orlando.

Yeah - I think the bold faced statement is what I was hearing from folks...
            Thanks for the clarification...
I guess I'm going with the ANCHOR versions ...

              Frank-----

The 1963-E1966 motor mount was GM #3796050. It was discontinued in October, 1969 and replaced by the GM #3886466. The 3886466 was the L1966-E69 PRODUCTION motor mount. These two mounts were slightly different in configuration but are functionally interchangeable. It's hard for me to explain the configurational differences. The 3886466 was discontinued from SERVICE in March, 1971 and replaced by the first locking style mount sold in SERVICE under GM #3990916.

Either the 3796050 or the 3886466 are difficult to find NOS. The current reproduction non-locking style mounts are more like the 3886466 than the 3796050.

Part of what I love about the '63s...there is always more to learn....
I wonder how the ANCHOR mounts will score under judging ? An 'Originality' hit I would assume ?

I have hopes of getting the car into the Jan Lakeland Regional but it will be close - REALLY close!

                  Frank,

Over the years I have collected several sets of Anchor 2249 engine mounts. Some are made in Korea and some are made in the good old U.S.A. I also have a set of used original 63-E66 mounts and as I remember the Anchor 2249 mounts are very similar. If interested, I could post a few photos.

                        Frank,

Enclosed are 2 photos comparing a NOS 3866466 motor mount with a 2249 mount (Made in U.S.A.). The 3rd photo shows the GM part number 3866466 molded into the rubber. I already had these photos in my computer.

When I find my used original 3796050 mount I will post a photo, hopefully sometime in the near future, but don't hold your breath.

                          Dave------

My very vague recollection is that the 3796050 did not have the "duck-bill" configuration of the rubber at the bottom of the mount. It will be interesting to see if my recollection is correct if you can find your used example of this mount.

I have NOS examples of the GM #3886466 [none for sale] and they are identical to the 3886466 you picture.

                              Joe,
Yesterday I spent a hour or so looking for my engine mounts in my garage, my garage attic, and my basement but without success so far. According to my notes I do have a box of 4 used engine mounts:
                              1 used "3886466 AU 79" (L66-67 Corvette)
                              1 used "3796050" (63-E66 Corvette)
                              2 used "3777409" (61-68 Chev. Pass.)
When I find the box I will post photos of the 3796050 mount.
I wish that I had a large warehouse to store all of my parts. I do not have enough room in my 2-car garage and basement as there are boxes on top of boxes on top of boxes, etc.
