I'm not sure that standard deductions protect you from adding items not present from the factory to what is covered. How about stamping or etching a name into the battery, or on the tires, or into windshields, door glass, roof panels, headlamps, etc. Seems to me it needs to appear as it was when it left the factory, a rebuilders name would not seem to fit that general rule. But what do I know, I am not a mechanical judge.

The added stamp should be no deduct just like there is no deduct for a added luggage rack. Only deduct is for the missing fiberglass from the holes drilled.

Being that the pad surface, engine code, and VIN derivative are each 'all or nothing' judging decisions, it would not be appropriate to take all the points for this pad given that it's 90%+ intact and original.

I've seen cases at National events were there was only a tiny corner of the original broach marks and surface still remaining and no deduct was made.

The different fonts of "H''s is quite common. That's why nobody mentioned it. Different fonts of the number "2" are also common.

Keep in mind that the stampings were done with a gang stamp. The operator on the line at that station made up the stamps from individual dies inserted into gang stamp holders. They changed them each day and usually had a bevy of stamps made up with all (or most) of the engine suffix codes they were building that particular day. They had bins or racks of the individual dies which they drew from (and to which they placed any removed dies). The dies were used and re-used until they wore out. Undoubtedly, there were slightly different font styles due to changes over time as a result of changing die suppliers or for other reasons. I'm quite sure that the line operators that made up the gang stamps each day made absolutely no effort to match the font style when they drew the individual dies out of the racks or bins.

the very common fat and skinny H. And different O and 0 in other dates. See it more times than not I think.

But the info that is MISSING from this is "What year are these engine stamps applicable to?" When was the picture taken? The engine stamps varied over the years; not every year, but enough that is makes this an important question.

It would be nice to know the date of the pics just for curiosity's sake, but this info could not be reasonably used to validate or discount an engine stamp pad. There was likely several sets of dies in use at any one time and worn dies would be replaced on an ongoing basis. In theory, there may not have been even a single engine (Corvette or otherwise) stamped with what we see in the pics.

If I remember correctly, that pic was taken by Michael Hanson as be photographed the last cars built at the St Louis plant.
It was very rare at the time for an individual to get permission to take pics at a GM assembly plant.
Since the ST Louis plant was closing, he was allowed to follow frames and bodies from beginning to end and the completed car driven out the door.
