    1954 Hubcaps

Has any of the owners of 54s had a issue with continuios loosening of hubcaps. Mine begin with rotating slightly and bending the valve stems.Than if the problem is not addressed quickly, they will come off. I have the wheels with the nubs however that doesn't seem to help. Any one have a cure?

The problem of the wheel cover auto-rotating slightly isn't unique to '54s. The wheel covers on my '60 do the same thing. I have no idea why it happens. I just bite the bullet and reposition the covers every so often.

While my 54's never had this issue I remember a 62 that did. If I recall I bent the tabs ever so slightly so that there was a more aggressive hold on the wheel. The hubcap went on with more effort but that solved the issue for me. Hope that helps.

John, I read your post from over a year ago. I had exactly same problem on my 55 and installed steel valve stems which solved the problem. They won’t bend like rubber stems and prevent the cover from rotating.

I smear a slight amount of valve lapping compound of the nubs to increase adhesion. mike
