    1970 Radiator Hose Clamp's

What would be the correct original radiator hose clamp's for a 1970 L46 radiator hose ? 1) Can they be Suretite with 26 size code? 2) Should they be straight or script with a angle ? Thank you for any help !

    Hi Stephen,
    WELCOME!
Your first post! I hope you become an active member on the DB.
The new edition of the 70-72 Technical Information and Judging Guide indicates that a worm type clamp was used for the radiator hoses.
The clamp is described as having the 'Sure-Tite' logo embossed near the worm screw in an italic font. The photo included on the page shows the logo running parallel with the length of the band.
If you haven't yet bought a copy of the new 5th Edition of the TIM&JG you should…. I think it'll be a real treat for you!
    Regards,
    Alan

Here's a photo of a very nice 70 350/350 that was brought for Flight Judging at the Delaware Valley Chapter's annual Fall event this past Sunday!
If you weren't there you may want to mark your calendar for next year already. There's always a very nice turn out of cars to be Flight Judged.

The volume of #28 Wittek clamps sold to GM vehicles from 1970-972 including Corvette’s is in the many millions of pieces. Too assume all were identical is unbelievable, as more than one set of tooling was required. Too state that the manufacturers logo only appears one way is a stretch in my experience.

I have purchased special tooling that included characters and/or part numbers to be molded into plastic parts as well as those having it stamped into the surface of steel parts. These tools were made locally & then literally transported around the corner to Dana Engraving. Most often these specialty shop are the ones producing the identification characters on a tool.
Whether the ID is stamped on the band or rolled on - the tools wear – and with 10’s of million of clamps produced, unavoidable variations occur when tools are renewed or replaced.

It’s like overspray – how does one quantify it ? Or is it like porn – I know it when I see it.

Just for the record so a neophyte is not mislead by a typographical error: under this discussion, this Wittek hose clamp size is 28H
                      not 26

I TOTALLY agree. The same principle applies to many other parts, too.

Sadly Dana Engraving is no longer in business. Wrico Stamping of New York is also no more as are my special tooling in their custody. Wittek is gone. Last week a vendor in Michigan inquired about my stock of OEM bypass hose clamps. They were made by American Stamping, Battle Creek, Michigan. They are gone also.

Recently is was revealed that 50, 60 or 70,000 manufacturing plants have disappeared in the US in the last 2-3 decades – depending upon the report. No wonder there are some many imported Corvette reproductions. Many USA short run suppliers as well as big ones are just out of business.

Truthfully I would not purchase almost any recently restored Corvette. Sadly they are just loaded with questionable imports & I’ve owned & driven Corvettes long enough to appreciate the real USA deal. Too bad GM does not do as Mercedes & supply obsolete parts.

Don’t forget to vote for someone who will restore the US to the pinnacle that allowed – Mom, Apple Pie & Corvette to thrive.
