Does anyone have a source for the oiler cups used on the generator and distributor for a 1960 Corvette! Thanks.

Re: Oiler cups
I got mine from Corvette Central. They are functionally okay, but the real ones have Glit or Gilt Mfg stamped into the cap. The CC ones only have a circle with a "G" in the center. I don't think the markings are correct. I also understand that some of these caps were plain. I'm not sure who the expert is on these, but that's what I've been told on the judging field.- Top

Re: Oiler cups
Gits was the brand name. Generally only one (or neither) had the gits id-- the od of the shoulder differed between the cup on some of the front frames vs the one on the rear. I don't recall whether that was aluminum frame vs. cast iron, or what it was exactly. I will try to get pictures tomorrow.Last edited by Mike E.; October 10, 2016, 08:19 PM.- Top

Re: Oiler cups
Here are pictures: the first two are original GITS and non-GITS caps, then a picture of a later incorrect GITS cap. The fourth is a 57-58 style of cap with a crowned area, and the sixth shows the different ODs of the bottoms. The sixth is a volunteer picture--same piece as picture number 1.

Re: Oiler cups
Awesome photos Mike !!!
For reference, the Front is small OD, the Rear is larger OD. Some repros have a "S", which I'm not aware were on C1 generators.
Some electric shops may have some old end frames lying around that may have usable caps. Problem is removing them without damage. I ruined a few in the past. Maybe CRC freeze-off spray next time.

Re: Oiler cups
I can tell you another place they were commonly used. Gitts caps came in a few sizes and were used as gas caps for old model airplane tanks that were mounted to the back of the engine. There are dozens on engines in my collection. I have also seen them used on industrial equipment. I didn't think they were that hard to find. They were also used on electric motors. Should be some out there, I didn't have to much trouble finding them the last time I bought some, BUT that was 2008.
